I am not saying lets make huge changes to the site but I will say that it's one of the reasons I left so many years ago. On that same note if someone new came to the site and asked what's with the blue? what's the difference if they came to the site and asked what's with the white and blue people?
I'm by no means special and I can do the extra leg work to find out what challenges are DPL challenges but it's the fact that it would be easier and faster to see DPL challenges if they were marked somehow.
People will be confused either way and newcomers are clueless to the effect of DPC. Old timers will understand a DPC image from a GOOD image. Moral of my suggestion is during the DPL season marking challenges would be beneficial to players and those that aren't can just ignore it. That or just display the BG color change to only people playing in the DPL. That would be an easy script to right. |
Within the site we have, a standard flag on the challenges would suffice. "While anyone may enter this challenge, this is also part of the DPL". Or something similar. Otherwise all participants should be aware and shepherded by the team captains. |

The are marked Sunday and Tuesday. :)
Seriously, it's on the DPL team page too specifically named. |
As I have noticed :)
Call me lazy, call me blond but I would prefer a "mark noticeable at first glance" :-)

First Ten
That means you comment on the first ten entries that show up in your voting rotation for all of the DPL challenges. Not only will we then get feedback from our teammates on potential entries, but we'll get a little trial by fire once voting commences. Of course, you're not limited to commenting on only ten entries, but by selecting the first ten, it sort of guarantees a random selection and hopefully everyone will get at least a comment or two during voting.
Any takers?? |
Hey, Deb, how about starting a separate thread dedicated to this? Just call it First Ten and repeat the challenge. That way we can bump it easily. It's buried in this thread. |

People,
The DPL challenges are only the Sunday and Tuesday challenges (SC calls them Monday and Wednesday because that's what Langdon calls them). It's been said and seems pretty clear to even me, although I am getting on in years.
All of us playing in DPL have team leaders. They should understand which challenges are Sunday and Tuesday challenges and can help us understand the days of the week if necessary.
If you are confused, ask them. They are smart. They've already learned the days of the week and can help the rest of us.
There is no sign necessary. Relax.
Ask someone what day it is if you are confused.
Relax... Really.
Just relax. Sunday...Tuesday...
Sunday Tuesday... Sunday... and... well... Tuesday .
;) <--- please note winky face

I'm sorry, Lydia, but now I am REALLY confused. Can someone verify, by challenge title, the first two DPL challenges? Road Signs and ??? |

Road Signs came into being at midnight Monday night (we normals call that the Tuesday challenge).
Graveyard came into being at midnight Wednesday night (we normals call that the Thursday challenge).
Blue happened on Saturday night (we normals call that the Sunday challenge).
Only Road Signs and Graveyard count for the first week.
Only Sun and Tues challenges count in DPL.
Today is Monday. *grin*

Oh good heavens, NO!
WE call them the Sunday and Tuesday challenges, because that's what it feels like to most of us who are in DPC time zone or further West. But in DPC time, the challenges ROLL IN at Midnight Sunday/Monday and Midnight Tuesday/Wednesday. Technically, that's Monday and Wednesday.
The Thursday/Friday challenges are NOT part of DPL.
The first week's two challenges are "Road Signs" and "Graveyards".
The second week's two challenges are "Feathers" and the challenge-to-be-announced tomorrow night at the stroke of midnight which is technically Wednesday morning in the Eastern time zone but still Tuesday night as you move west.
OK?

Okay, so I have them right. But your explanation still makes no sense to me. Road Signs was announced at midnight between Sunday and Monday, Eastern time a week ago. It closed for submissions at midnight between Sunday and Monday, Eastern time less than 24 hours ago. And voting on it ceases at midnight between Sunday and Monday, Eastern time just over six days from now. I can see why it might be called the Sunday challenge. Or the Monday challenge. But I can't for the life of me see why it would be called the Tuesday challenge, especially by anyone operating in the US time zones. |

The easiest thing to do is just go to your team page. It shows what team your facing and in what challenge. |

Thanks :) Our team captain just pointed out the "League" drop-down in the main taskbar on every page. I'd never looked there. Well, I'm sure I looked there once upon a time years ago when I joined DPChallenge, but that was long after the leagues were over so there was nothing of interest to me there. |

The "Tuesday" challenge is the SECOND challenge of the week, it happens at midnight of Tuesday/Wednesday and properly should be called the "Wednesday" challenge. |

So far, the challenge topics for DPL have been very discouraging. I've made an effort by suggesting a couple of challenges that would make me more interested in participating and voting; I hope others join in.

I don't care much about the subjects, but totaly against expert editing... I really REALLY hope there won't be any. It would be such a blow. |

While it is fun to watch what the few can do with the expert ruleset, half the fun of the DPL is pulling in and working with diverse skill sets on a team. Expert challenges are beyond the reach of too many folks to allow the sort of broad participation we need. |

Road Sign and Graveyard were fairly landscape-slanting and very concrete, leaving very little room for creativity (or maybe that's shoehorning!). At least with Feathers there's a little more flexibility.
I personally enjoy expert (because I own and love Photoshop), but I could see others' perspective on it. A week with an expert and a minimal/basic would be interesting - that way you could take your pick. |

While I did not come up with something super creative for road sign, there were a number of really creative ideas and photographs in the challenge. Not all of them worked for me or were technically good, but there was some pretty creative stuff. We have not seen the graveyard challenge yet, me and my team have got some pretty creative shots. So I don't really know what the fuss is about the challenges.
No thanks to expert and minimal/basic in the same week. What? A choice? Between two extremes maybe. I don't mind expert, allows me to do a little more but I don't go as crazy (or am as good) as some here do. But, it has been shown that you don't need to do expert editing to do well or win in an expert challenge.
My complaint with the more restricted editing challenge is they do not simulate the old days of film. Things that they don't allow (especially cropping) can be done in film. Granted it takes some super special talent to do things like Scott Mutter, but all the greats did some to a lot of editing of their photos in the dark room. |
