That's not true. First challenge with "a little jazz" was Music III, and it doesn't count either.

It should better not count because basically it's a free study; take any photo, then search in more than thousand challenge names for a matching title.

That's not really true, because the idea is to create an image that shows out-of-the-box thinking on a particular topic of your choice: that's far from a "free study" because MOST pictures don't show real lateral thinking regarding ANY topic, unless you wanna be lame and say that anything that DNMC represents fulfillment of this challenge, and I doubt the voters will allow this. Like, say you're basing on a "Dogs" challenge and enter a chicken... That dog won't hunt/that bird won't fly, I don't think...

it no count

Well, for most of us DPL is over after Round 5. Only the first teams of each division go into the playoff, don't they?
A break after the event wouldn't make much sense. Or did I misunderstand the rules?

When you go to the Calendar of Events at the League Menue it says "midseason break" starting today

Look here but you have to go to June

Look at the link Ja-9 provided and the schedule at the bottom (or under the League tab in your own main dark blue bar of site menus at the top of the page. It says, "Mid-Season Break: Jun. 29th, 2015 - Jul. 5th, 2015" so I think "Thinking" is NOT for league.

I dont think it is part of the league. If you look at the Overview page under league it will list the current Rounds and challenges that count for that round. This currently does not list Round 4, nor show this challenge counting anywhere.

I think things will update, but my understanding it is part of the league

So are we on break this week? Or did the dates get off?

Overview (look at the bottom)

That would mean that the current Challenge of "Thinking Outside The Box" is NOT for league?

I agree, there's a lot of creativity in execution in there - I guess I'm talking about creativity in interpretation (which is always sadly dangerous because of DNMC.)

But honestly, it's all good -- the harder it is for us, the more it stretches us (whether editing rules or theme.)

Well, most of my entries are Basic-legal, but isn't this the ideal time to try Expert, when you can get editing advice and idea help from your team?

So far, the challenge topics for DPL have been very discouraging.

Road Sign and Graveyard were fairly landscape-slanting and very concrete, leaving very little room for creativity (or maybe that's shoehorning!). At least with Feathers there's a little more flexibility.

I personally enjoy expert (because I own and love Photoshop), but I could see others' perspective on it. A week with an expert and a minimal/basic would be interesting - that way you could take your pick.

While I did not come up with something super creative for road sign, there were a number of really creative ideas and photographs in the challenge. Not all of them worked for me or were technically good, but there was some pretty creative stuff. We have not seen the graveyard challenge yet, me and my team have got some pretty creative shots. So I don't really know what the fuss is about the challenges.

No thanks to expert and minimal/basic in the same week. What? A choice? Between two extremes maybe. I don't mind expert, allows me to do a little more but I don't go as crazy (or am as good) as some here do. But, it has been shown that you don't need to do expert editing to do well or win in an expert challenge.

My complaint with the more restricted editing challenge is they do not simulate the old days of film. Things that they don't allow (especially cropping) can be done in film. Granted it takes some super special talent to do things like Scott Mutter, but all the greats did some to a lot of editing of their photos in the dark room.

While it is fun to watch what the few can do with the expert ruleset, half the fun of the DPL is pulling in and working with diverse skill sets on a team. Expert challenges are beyond the reach of too many folks to allow the sort of broad participation we need.
