Which do you have? Make, Model. Do ya like it, or wish ya had the other?

I'll start, I got a very old (can't remember the brand let alone model) crt that is about to die probably, but like it for the most part. Wanna get a 19 inch 'flat' screen crt based on the sony trinitron.

I only have the LCD from my powerbook right now, but I really want to add a 19" or 22" LaCie electronblue CRT.

Good Q, I'm currently looking for a new monitor, CRT are 'supposed' to be better quality wise but I really need the desktop space of an LCD. I've will have £4-500 to spare on a monitor next month (maybe November) and want to spend wisely.

I have one of these at work, but don't often edit photos on it. Mostly I use a 15" (PC) or 17" (Mac) Sony Trinitron CRT (various older models) ... I have a G3 Powerbook, but I find that LCD useless for photo editing except for cropping. I guess the new LCDs are better, but I don't find a compelling reason to switch in a desktop installation.

Love my Dell 1900FPs! These are really the Samsung 191's which are well reviewed. About $600 each.

I use one in digital mode and the other in analog, on the same CPU and they are both great.

However, while it's a joy to the eyes, no matter how hard I try to calibrate, I cannot get enough brightness to differentiate the darkest three-four bars on the DPC gray scale chart (on the voting page). I don't know if other LCD's fare better, but I still love these, and I spend 12+ hours in front of them every day.

A pair of 22" NEC 'flat' CRTs.

I have a Compaq something-or-other 17" 'flat' screen CRT at home that I love muchly... but this one here at work is a different story. It's a 15" Benq FP547 LCD and it is a suck. I don't like it at all. I won't ever vote on a challenge from work because of it.

I have an old, but well taken care of, 17" Sony for my home PC. It seems to do quite well.

At work I have a 17" Compuke that sucks donkey.

19" NEC-Mitsubishi Natural-'Flat' CRT. Great quality.

I have a 15" Hyundai Imagequest V770+

I would not know if it is good or bad as far as monitors are concerned. It is Ok I suppose.

BUT we are thinking of upgrading and I'd really like to know what other people would recommend. Are there any LCD monitors say 17" or 19" worth buying and if they are are they reasonably priced in comparison to a good crt monitor of the same size.

I use an 18" Dell Ultrasharp LCD. I used to keep a 19" CRT also, for checking what my photos looked like on CRT and for looking over things in a lower resolution, but with money as tight as it is right now, I had to give it up to sell with another system. I find that my LCD is much sharper than my old CRT was, and it wasn't very old at all... I had no idea how far LCDs had come since my ancient laptop! No pixelation at all - everything's clean, smooth, and sharp at 1280x1024. I love this monitor.

Sony LCD. Personally I find that modern LCDs quite comfortably compete with CRTs on picture quality; there's a lot of prejudice from the days when LCDs had poor colour and lousy refresh rates but I'd have to say that both LCDs we now have beat my old CRT on image quality hands down.

15" KDS LCD at work - love it! (also had to, as my desk doesn't have the space to support a CRT - good excuse huh?)
17" Envision CRT at home - Love it!

Neither of these are high end at all, but when I have looked at my DPCPrints up alongside, I am very happy.

Heck, I'm just plain Happy!

Dell 1702 LCD

I like it better than my old CRT. Would like a larger LCD.

Would _REALLY_ like software/hardware to do color calibrations. Would like my photos to print closer to what I see. Especially when I upload them for printing from a service.

Sylvania L17 LCD. I think I'm going to step up to a 20" and use this one for a "twin".

Here at school I have my NEC MultiSync lcd 1550x 15 inch. It's a really nice lcd but not all that big. I also have my laptop screen which isn't especially good I find. At home I can use a 19 inch flatscreen .22 dot pitch crt. Colors are much brighter on LCD's usually though.

I've seen (but... *sigh* don't own one)... the 30" Apple display. I think this, and the smaller models moreso, will be the best monitor to have.
even the screens one the newest iMacs are amazing. about 150 degree viewing angle as well. (my own judgement)

NEC MultiSync LCD 1765

17" 'Flat' 'panel'. Until you "see" the images on this screen, you cannot judge it. Space savings of a 'flat' 'panel' with clarity of a CRT. Glass front, rotates landscape/portrait, excellant resolution and color rendition.

Check one out at your local retailer. Absolutely the right choice for me.
