BTW - I have a DNMC comment - for real?! On this challenge DNMC is pretty hard to do.

Yikes.... I was sure I had already posted this response, but it wasn't there.. I must be going crazy.
Anyway... here it is again:

DNMC probably means you didn't title it "aftermath".

Woohoo!!! Good to see you back! And perfect timing too, check out the new changes to the site ever since former TS'er Bear_Music became SC. |

Not sure what voters are expecting here (entrants too) - aftermath - at least to my mind - indicates disorder, chaos, things not being "right". Not sure how you can do eye candy aftermath. |

Mine would have been more effective with a different title but I didn't want a bunch of DNMC comments for putting a title other than "aftermath" |

I think SC should go through and rename all the pictures Aftermath. There's too many to be giving DNMCs. |

There is no functional reason behind using title aftermath for all entries. It's just a dumb and arbitrary requirement. And btw, aftermath simply means consequence, although usually of some 'bad' event. |

I totally agree on both counts. BUT, I hate to see so many voters mark down entries as DNMC. I would prefer everybody vote on the photographs rather than worry about whether the titler bothered to follow the dumb requirement.
edit to add: it's hard for me to believe that this many people did it on purpose.

Titles, in many cases, do not make a photo better, much like the cover of a book.
But when the heart of the challenge is to show and not tell a story- it's not cool to name it something else and add an enhancement. |

All having the same title is a neutralizer letting the photo speak for itself ... that was part of the "challenge". Descriptive titles help tell the story instead of letting the photo tell it. |

The challenge description does say to title the image "Aftermath," so it's my fault that I'm getting DNMC votes.
Understood.
For the other rebel titlegivers out there - this is a photo challenge website, I vote for the photos - not titles. |

Then it shouldn't matter at al that you title it anything at all. Or do away with titles entirely.
I worry about people voting down because of a chosen title not meeting a TITLE REQUIREMENT, never up.... As this is a photo challenge site. I look at the photos, the title - maybe if I glimpse on my way to the vote button it is inconsequential.

IMO, this particular challenge topic does not benefit from the ruse. |

I don't want to muck up this thread, so I will just clarify for the record. I love to title photos, paintings, songs,etc.- the title is super important, don't kid yourself. It points out what to look at, emphasize, belies the intentions of the most secreted artisan. Even if you don't title something, you have still made a choice...But I have advocated for all shots to be title-free during challenges, and I always give the benefit of the doubt with respect to DMNC usage. I like out of the box thinkers, rebels, etc. Scofflaws, on the other hand, who title their shots when told not to do it? Honest mistake, fine. Otherwise- I am not advocating a scoring reduction, just saying its not cool. I agree that the names should all be reset to aftermath. |

Well that's what you get for naming it The Sentinel.

Totally agree with blindy. And it looks like a lot of us forgot about the titling aspect. I read the description but since there is no role played by using a global title, it slipped my mind when uploading. For example, if the idea was that we all title photos 'aftermath', and then the commenters have to guess what precipitated the scene, that would be much more meaningful. |
