Ummm, No kids, - You'll need to go to the Gallery page, the link is at the bottom. The picture is titled "Texture Out-Takes" (in the upper left corner).

Yes, I'm very happy with the camera, I've only had it for about 7 challenges now. (7 weeks) - It just dosen't see things the way I do yet. The only down side to this camera is the cumbersome size (with lenses & all the garb). - ((and of corse the cost)) - :-(

I am considering purchasing the Nikon D100 sometime in the spring. A friend of mine is getting ready to buy one and after she gets hers, I will determine if I want one or not... |

Could you post your thoughts on the D100 after you get to see/hold your friend's? The only place around here that has the actual camera in stock is in downtown Houston. I'd rather drive to Austin than deal with DTHouston. I could avoid it all if I had the official jmsetlzer review. :)

The D100 was my #1 choise when I set out to go digital - (but I have this patience problem & I couldn''t wait 5 weeks for it to be released). Lenses are expensive, You will need about 4 of them - I was able to use them from my Film Nikon.

The only thing I'm concerned about with the D100 at this point is the macro capability that I would have. I have two lenses for my Nikon N60 that will work on the D100 body, but they are not top end lenses and they don't focus in close like my Sony does for macro work. The D100 body is gonna sell for about $2000 and I would most likely have to buy at least one new lens for it so I may purchase the Nikon macro lens at 90mm or 105mm... i can't remember the focal length on the Nikon lens... |

I JUST read a review of the d100 last night at a bookstore.
The most surprising thing in the review was, and I paraphrase from memory: ''disappointing and surprising lack of detail in the images. For example, in some cases, shots of hair rather than being made up of individual strands almost seemed to be areas of flat color or undifferentiated texture.''
I''d wait to hear more about this before I buy that camera.
There were also some dings about the slow speed of the autofocus system.
** also apparently the D100 is misnamed - it''s not based on F100 at all, but rather the N80.

For my macro , I'm also using a lower end -AF micro Nikkor 60 mm. about $600.00(2.8 is a must, or faster) - It does everything I could want in a macro.

I would have to believe that the choice of lenses played a role in that review...

Say it isn't so! I was putting all of my eggs in this basket. I guess I'll start searching for an alternative :( Ideas on other cameras with same setup (use real lenses, digital, 5+mp, doesn't weigh 2000lbs)? I know nothing.

Isn't the focus speed determined solely by the lens. - All mine are self contained motors inside the lens.

well that would have been the first thought of probably anyone reading the review, but apparently the review was using top of the line new Nikkor lenses.
Their point was that they were surprised by how poorly the imager resolves.
On the other hand, if you look at it, it makes sense - why would Nikon kill the market for it's more expensive and lucrative D1 series cameras? There has to be differentiation there. Nikon is probably fairly certain that the Nikon name in combination with the price will sell the D100 to those who lust for D-SLR's yet cannot afford the premium product. |

D60 (Canon) seems to be getting unilateral raves...
Just so you know: I am brand agnostic. I don't care what brand of anything I'm using AS LONG AS IT WORKS :).

negative. focus tracking is a processing function that occurs inside the camera's CPU. The camera first has to determine 'what is in focus' before it can order the lens to comply. then the lens's motors come into play and certainly play a part in responsiveness at that end of the system.
