I had the honor of photographing some adorable dogs last weekend and I would like to know what you think.

Thanks!

Oh, Joann!!! Those are so good! I just love "Monica." Very nice shots... the owners should be very proud to have these pictures of their little pups! ;o)

Very dynamic and fun, especially with the red background. Did you dodge "Monica"? I have such a hard time setting the exposure right on my black dog.

2nd and last are my favorites - great expressions. Dogs are so photogenic! I'm not nuts about the arm in the first image, but that's just me.

I'm sorry it took so long to respond. AOL knocked me off and I couldn't get back in for a while.

Thanks everybody for the great compliments. I had the most wonderful time taking these photos and their owners are really happy with them. Of course, JAVA, the mixed tri colored dog photographed so well!

Monica, the poodle was a challenge. I didn't dodge her but I did adjust the curves, lightened and added contrast. Monica came with her "sister" Hillary, a blond Shibu Inu and I tried to photograph them together but none of those turned out. So, if anybody has any advice on how to photograph the blond Hillary and dark haired Monica together, I'm heeding all advice. I have another opportunity to shoot them together.

cghubbell, you're not the only one not liking the arm in the first photo but it tells a complete story and without it, the emotion would be lost. The look that Java is giving his owner is one of love and devotion and without that arm, it wouldn't be the same. Someone even told me that because the arm is there, it's a snapshot - yikes!

Lauriel, thanks for the lovely compliment - it means a lot.

Dim7, Gorgeous dog! I hope you entered the framed comp. A funny thing, I've never really gotten close to a dog, at least not since my childhood but the experience of photographing these guys (I got a kiss from Tasha, the Labrador) I have just fallen in love with our 4 legged friends.

The lighting I used were two Alien Bees strobes in a lit room. I used seamless paper backdrop. My shutter was set at 1/500 and aperature at f8.

Thanks again for commenting.

Beautiful! Maybe leave a bit more room at the top of some? A couple of the heads are out of the center of interest.

Neat photos... Did the dogs seem to mind the strobes going off? I've done a few shots of our cats using multiple flashes and they don't seem to mind. I suppose it is up to the temperament of the particular dog.

Cheers, Chris H.

Hi Chris, the dogs didn't even flinch. I had been to a Pet Expo the weekend before I photographed these dogs and discovered that they really don't mind the flash.
