That's what Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, said at Yahoo Press Conference...
" ... was a decision that we would not have the Flickr Pro piece anymore, and that all - there's no such thing as Flickr Pro, because today, with cameras as pervasive as they are, there is no such thing really as professional photographers, when there's everything is professional photographers. Certainly there is varying levels of skills, but we didn't want to have a Flickr Pro anymore, we wanted everyone to have professional quality photos, space, and sharing."

Flickr is shit anyway. No self-respecting photographer would use that site. It's for the kiddies to share photos, like Facebook.

Just wondering, which site should a self-respecting photographer use, apart from DPC? |

It is a bit like saying anyone who can operate a PC is a programmer. Come to think of it, that may be why Yahoo has fallen so far from the days when they were bigger than Google. Yahoo used to have some great leading edge programmers, not so much these days. So Flickr will diminish and Microsoft and Google will fight to be the main photo storage area.
After all since anyone can do anything, and if you are unable to separate those who do a thing very well from those who dabble, there is no level of quality that you would be willing to play for. |

this still doesn't compare to the travesty of an update that photobucket pushed out. |

I guess that in the age of Twitter apologies for something "taken out of context", no one needs to really mean what they say anymore. |

I think maybe she meant there are no pro photographers on Flickr. The FlickrPro accounts don't exist any more.
Or, she could mean that since everyone can post photos at full resolution, they are treating everyone like a pro.

What other purpose is there for twitter? It's our generation's version of the pet rock. |

I give her the benefit of the doubt. She says she meant that even your armchair photog could have gigabytes and gigabytes of photos and that Flickr was offering a terabyte of storage to everybody because there is no longer a "pro photographer" subclass that would be the only ones interested in such an amount of storage.
It was muffed, no doubt, and she admitted to as much. |

She doesn't speak very well grammatically. I don't think she has been trained.
Perhaps if she gets a better grammer device, she'll be a pro just like everyone else and there will be no need for GrammarPro any longer.

I've been thinking. I listened to the first part of her speech and it was very smooth, like a campaigner, with a joke or two and the very professional pause for applause. But I got bored, and had to resort to the text for the pro photographer part.
What puzzles me is whether whatever she is taking wore off or just started to kick in. (Does she know the mayor of Toronto I wonder). |
