Many of you know from previous posts last school year was no picnic for my little boy. We had a lot of behavior issues and then finally he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.

He has been seeing a fantastic counselor who has been a God's gift to me in getting him diagnosed and getting him treatment. Last time we saw her she touched on the fact that he totally misses social cues. Today I saw her one on one to work on the next step of his treatment.

Her recommendation was to go searching for pics of people showing different emotions and starting with the basic 4 of happy, sad, mad and scared, then branching out to the other 24. With that in mind I talked with his Autistic Support Person at school and we came up with the idea of creating little folders for each emotion and trying to come up with some wallet size photos that he can look at and decide what emotion is shown in the photo.

I am in need of photos and lots of them of people where there is a clear expression on the face of some emotion and I am asking if any of you are willing to share a photo or two of persons or people that I can print out for him and him only in wallet size to use here at home and school for therapy to please send them to me. I can use photos with any resolution for this as long as the facial expression is clear.

Again I want to express that the photos will only be used for him to learn how to read peoples expressions and nothing else...Also thanks to any of you who can help me out with this.

I would be glad to help, I have work for the past 20 years in the big brother program and understand what you need. How do you want the pictures email?

Funny, I was about to suggest a challenge in a similar vein. (I'll post it soon)

As I consider myself a crummy photographer, I'll leave it for those who can take a half-decent picture. But I also suggest heading to the image section of Google.com, where you should be able to find plenty of pictures to help you out.

Yeah it would make a cool challenge and I did consider searching webshots for photos I could use but I would much rather ask for the photos than just take them.

Sue and Tim

Any photos that show peoples faces clearly where he can learn to recognize peoples expressions would be greatly welcomed. Its going to be a long on going project with him and I am gonna need lots of those kind of photos if you would be kind enough to send them to me I'd really appreciate it.

They don't have to be challenge worthy either...snapshots are actually perfect for what we need.

Anna, are you looking for adult or children face photos.......or doesn't it matter? Most of mine are animals (4 legged), but will have a look through see what I've got.

Sue,

Adult and children both...the purpose of the whole thing is so he learns how to read people's expressions.

Also I know I don't have a lot of photos of people...mine are mostly plants, animals and trains...thats why I asked here. I figured with some help I can have several photos for each emotion.

This was supposed to convey an emotion ... let me know if you need more resolution than you can snag from the portfolio image.

This might be slightly less useful : )

I'll look for some others which are not just "happy faces" ...

Since there seems to be a specific set you're trying to fill out, maybe you can post a list of the emotions you want to portray. Some of them might be better posed-for specifically, as they are not normaly photographed in "real life."

Well, it's great to hear that things are improving and things are on the right track. Here are few shots, perhaps not as good as they have to be, but if you can use them than I would be happy to help.

Surprised
Disgusted
Mad (psycho)
Thinking (bad thougts)

Sent you some - I was surprised how difficult it is to identify an emotion from a picture.

Thank you very much, I already have them downloaded and ready to print out.

I know how hard it is to identify an emotion from a pic but it is a lot better than trying to identify them from a cartoon or just drawings. These are real expressions and will at least get him heading in the right direction.

Anyone who isn't sure yet what I need take a look at this photo by Van, it is exactly the kind of photo I am looking for.

Hi...I am quite familiar with Asperger's Syndrome. I have a child with Tuberous Sclerosis and Asperger's is commonly diagnosed in children with Tuberous Sclerosis. My son has not yet been diagosed with it, but is being evaluated for Pervasisve Developmental Disorders...another spectrum of Autism. I will be happy to assist with some photos as well. My son used to be pretty unresponsive to social queues...so I may have some pictures available there. More recently he is beginning to smile more and more and is very affectionate. I've captured him at some happy times. I believe most kids like your child and my own are very perceptive of the world around them and do know they are different. Good luck with your project and I will take a look at what I can find for you!

I don't know if anyone has told you this but after doing research on PDD I learned rather quickly not to accept that diagnosis...Thats the fancy term to say "Ummm your child has a problem but ummm we don't know what exactly it is."

Fortunately, for him he does show the emotions to some extent. His problem is in interupting others and reading them. In other words he just doesn't get the social expressions and guestures.
