If you think your entry says everything you could title it untitled.

John your work is wonderful, and would be if it had a title or not. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a title is irrelivant with good work. It will still be a great work named "jpg1" But I do admire your work and passion for a great visual!

Once again, I'm sorry, but I disagree. I feel that the title is important. I would consider jpg1 as 'untitled' unless I believed the photographer intentionally name the image with it. I can differentiate between file names and photo titles.

The image itself may be good regardless of the title, but I think a poor title will degrade the overall presentation.....

I disagree. Even if a photo speaks for itself, a title gives it that extra spice, especially a well thought out title.

Since I am new to this site, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to view the entries on the this new challenge? I can not seem to find anyway to "Look at the Photo". Sorry for the not so bright question but I just had to ask. I just think this site is terrific!!!

Here is where you hit the nail on the head "Everyone is entitled to an opinion" you need to be able to accept that others differs to yours and move on.

The voting and comments come from various opinions and that is the great part of this site. We do not restrict who can do what when we like it!

For those that think Title or border doesn't matter. Just for argument's sake....

It the Challenge was a) "Portraits" and the Title for this image was "Drag Queen" or b) "Railroads" and the title was "Traveling Bum"
How would this do?

Some photographers include a moderate white or negative space inside such a border to further separate the image from those distractions of the page they have no control over.

Excessively ornate borders, the use of lurid colours and effects outside of the image tend to draw attention to themselves, if not to the photographer him/herself. I have no doubt that there are people who'd consider this inappropiate, if not hideous. On very rare occasions, such 'decorum' may be quite appropiate - i.e. distraction as irony, persiflage etc. Considering the difficulty in extending an already 'hideous' image beyond its own confines by creating another one around the enigma, I'd deem the chances of anyone selecting such a photo (if then it can still be called a photo) as a favourite as equally rare.

And yes, I agree, let's look at the photo, but let's also make it easy for anyone to do just this.

I love your photography, but I had to pull out the dictionary 3 times to read what you wrote. Having done that, I agree!

Well, now that it seems this thread was started due to my comment, as I assumed, I'll share my thoughts on the topic. First off...what makes you think I didn't look at the photo? I did, and even commented that I liked it. Also, I'm not sure why you would be upset about someone 'complaining' about the title? I take the comment box to be a place where we can leave comments to possibly help the photographer among other things. Now you know that one person out there doesn't like the title, and you can take that into consideration and change it if you like, or not if you don't.

In terms of scoring, I may subconsiously deduct a point at most if the title really turns me off, but it doesn't factor in heavily to my scoring. For the record..I gave you a 7.

If it was your comment that started it..then I appoligize if this offended ya. It was no way personally directed towards you. It just seems that you will get picked apart no matter what ya do, so I am learning to just take all the comments to heart, and weather or not I agree, I learn what people like on DPC. It just makes me more aware! I appologize if it offended you!

If a border and title weren't meant to be considered, why are they there at all? Sorry, but presentation counts. This is true of all art forms. On cooking shows, chefs are judged on their plating skills in addition to their food's flavor. Musicians are expected to dress appropriately for their genre of music. Etc, etc...
