I'm so frustrated by the critiques on my photo -- what was I thinking when I thought I had a wonderfully beautiful photograph? I must be a total idiot to think I have any sort of sense about what makes a good photograph because I sure pegged it wrong on my submission. See you next week.

Awww!! Well, hope it wasn't anything I said. But to make you feel a little better, here is a funny picture.

Nope, in fact, you were one of the few who actually "saw" my photo the way I meant it to be seen. Thanks for that!

Jacko, here's a hint - women can joke about PMS...men can't. Women actually have the right to be upset or angry without that particular monster rearing it's ugly head. ;-)

I'm 50 it's Menopause!!

Hope I didn't embarrass anybody :) If I hadn't turned 50, I wouldn't have bought myself my wonderful camera for my birthday and I wouldn't have come to dpchallenge. So...it's all good. MOST of the time.

Keep your chin up, Jo Ann. I know you are a very capable photographer. these challenges can really throw us for a loop sometimes. I cringe when I look back at some of my submissions. Even when I am still happy with them after some time has passed I can clearly see what people were talking about. Just keep at it. You can be happy with the fact that you created an image that you enjoy. Besides, you are way too addicted to not come back real strong next time.

I just got a wonderful comment on my photograph, I will thank them personally after the contest but I am really, really appreciative. Tim, thanks for the good word. I understand we will be getting some sunshing this weekend and that will make me feel better too.

Woo hoo, sunshine! I wasn't having any luck trying to get my dog to hold the umberella over my camera and tripod while I tried to fiddle with the controls.

Jo. I hate to admit it, but yeah, it really can bugger your whole day up when you don't get the praise you were expecting on your photographs, can't it?

My last post "Priority Mail" got the type of comments I was expecting as it was my worst image to date and I knew that but it was an eleventh hour shot that I took just to get one in.
If you went all out to take a great shot for this challenge, and gave it everything you've got then I'm sorry you're disappointed with the comments. I wonder what sort of comment I made?

Just for curiosity sake, would you rather have no comment than a (constructively) critisising one? Sometimes I don't comment or critique on the shots that I think coulda done better for fear of upsetting someone, as you obviously have been, although each and every comment I make is PURELY constructive and only my opinion (for what it's worth) and also it's the amount of time it takes to comment on nearly 250 pictures...PHEW!

In all honesty Mark, it's my own warped sense of what I believe is good that upsets me. Of course, I love the critiques. The critiques on this site are what have improved my photography 10 fold since I started. The critiques about this photo throw me for a loop because I, in all honesty, belived that I had an awesome photograph in the challenge. The fact that I didn't has caused me to believe that I have no idea what is good. I took 2 days working on getting the best image I could for the challenge. I rejected photo after photo because it my mind, it wasn't my best work. Now, I have to think, did I reject better photos? Do I just not know what is good? Perhaps my experience of being at the location and loving the fresh air, the sounds and sights has prevented me from being objective about the photo. Perhaps some sentinmental subconcious memory makes me see something in the photo that nobody else can. I really should have said that I am upset with myself, not the critiques. Anyway, I'm over it.

PS: Mark, you didn't comment on my photo:)

Jo, you didn't comment on mine either :-))

Do you think this site can become an obsession? You enjoyed the fresh air and the sounds and sights, Jo, and that's what matters. I enjoyed my Sunday taking my shot (one of about twenty until those bloody dogs scared the crap outa me) and as luck would have it all the comments I've had so far have been outstanding! Would it have upset me if the comments had been a bit critical? Probably, yeah, in all honesty.

My wife loves my work, but then she's biased. She's taken my latest one (the one I've entered for this challenge) into work to show it off to her friends (bless her) and she always comes back with a good report and I get orders for pictures that I end up giving away.

Great comments are a photographers life-food (they are for me anyway) and I get so so depressed if what I consider a masterpeice gets torn to shreds. But I guess a lot of photographers are like that.

I told you earlier that it's the sights and sounds and fresh air that what matters. Who am I kidding....

Ahhh, but I'm not done yet!

My boss told me yesterday that my new "hobby" has at least taken me outside. I actually witnessed a guy fishing for sardines! Actually, little tiny herring but herring are sardines. I never thought I would see that. LOL

It happens to all of us. You think you have a great picture, but it turns out to be not as well received as expected.

For example, I thought I had a real winner with Hand Picked . Then the comments came in and I realized I really could have framed my photograph better and the colours were pretty blah! (I know, I know, I got a 6.2, but I really thought it would get a ribbon).

That's how we learn I guess.

Keep your chin up! :)

Perhaps "wanting" is better "having" (?)

I'm really looking forward to getting a ribbon (and I will get there eventually!) but after I get one then that's that goal achieved.

I could try for MORE ribbons, I dunno.

I guess we always want more than what we've have...
