I went on a 14 day trip to the Rocky mountain national park, grand tetons and yellowstone. Loved it! ;) Unfortunately Yellowstone is run like Disneyworld except you can get killed in there, where tourists stands 5 feet from a bison...

You've got a lot of "keepers" in that bunch. Quite a rewarding trip, I'd wager. Nicely done! |

All I have to say is WOW. Incredible shots. They appear to be straight out of the camera. I'd spend months editing them since they are ALL well worth the effort. Your wildlife shots in particular had me wishing I had the time and money to go on a similar trip. Absolutely fantastic. |

Thanks, i shot something like 1400. Not sure the count but it was burnt on 16-17 CD's. My wife's Nikon D70 was also quite busy but i haven't had time to do hers yet. I just took 100 photos to put online, haven't had time to look through them in depth (i.e. i just view the raw thumbnails and put them on).
Fun and tiring trip, it's hard getting up at 4 am each day...

Pretty much -- just color balance and contrast (except for hte bear and pronghorn photos, those are cropped because my 70-200mm lens just isn't close enough).
Yellowstone is good for wildlife -- what you do is you let the TOURISTS get close to the wildlife. Then you follow them, because it gives you more safety margin in case it charges (it'll hit the tourists first). A lot of people there are from foreign countries so they'll get close to wildlife without knowing the danger. I saw two Japanese tourists get as close as 5 feet from 2 bull elk (the one in the photos), as well as two Indian couple with thei new born baby within 5 yards from a huge bull elk -- last photo), as well as kids tautning a bison 10 yards away.

Very cool reflections collection. I'm sure you will be getting many print requests.
It always saddens me to hear how some people who take the time to go to wildlife reserves have abolutely no respect for the animals they are looking at. I often wonder what they get out of their outings. No doubt they'll be the first to sue if and when they get hurt.

It is often very windy up in the area you were in. Great work though.

Great job! I recognise the location of almost all your photos at RMNP. I've even got some similar photos in my portfolio. Pretty awesome place, I want to go back but I'm trapped at school in the mid-west for now. :'( |

Ditto! Excellent shots!! Wish you would have run across some Moose. Last time I did (old camera), not enough range to get a good shot.
Never have a problem seeing MY mountains photographed SO WELL!! (C:

Sit down - but this is true.
A ranger told me a few years ago that he stopped a lady who was smearing honey on her baby's face, so she could get a good picture of a bear licking it off. And I don't think he was joking.

Great shots! I love seeing well done shots of the American West. :) I need to plan a trip to Durango while I'm thinking about it and feeling nostalgic.

yeah my wife wishes the same thing. We saw everything except for moose. That, and wolves..... We only had 3 days in yellowstone. I think we should have reverse the trip, visit Yellowstone/GT first, and then RMNP because we have been to RMNP before.

Thanks. Yup, it is really windy up there. My wife and I went to RMNP last year and didn't see Bear Lake with reflections. We went in June, which the weather is still sort of wintery. August works better, and we were lucky. We vowed to be at Bear Lake each earlyl morning until we get the reflection shot. There is a group of rocks on the NORTH end of the lake that usually blocks the wind though, and that's where we were at first when the water was still windy. After the sun comes up, the wind calms a bit, and that's where the rest of the photos are made. i have frankly never seen Bear Lake so calm.... The next day we hiked up to Dream Lake and that was just real windy and COLD, the sun barely come up for a few minutes and was covered with clouds.
