Hi all, don't know if you've discussed this yet or not but the 10D [atleast in Canada/Calgary] is officially discontinued. I called all the major stores and they all told me the same thing; canon is no longer shipping or manufacturing. The new model comes out in Sept. at the earliest but no doubt will be quite a bit more $$$$$.
I bought a used one on Ebay today, it was the only one on the Canada site but if it works it's a really good deal.
Good luck to all who crave the canon :-) |

Hehehe, I know your feeling even though my camera of choice is Olympus and not Canon. Never the less it will be real interesting to see what comes out in September (-:

I've read it will be a 10D MarkII (some say 20D) and they will announce it next week among with another new EOS 3 based camera between the 10D and 1D, maybe a 3D ooyeah :). I've read the new 10D will maybe have an eye controlled focus and possibly take more photos in buffer and have more focusing points.
It's said that the new replacement for 10D will be 8mp and 1.6x factor. A new lens will also be launched at the same time and it will be Sept 15th!
Canon will use the Olympics to draw attention to their marketing on the new products.
Now, everything we read on the net isn't true, but I think it's pretty clear that a new Canon DSLR is coming soon.

Have you tried the new Taylor Made R7...or the R7TP...you need those too....and you know they'll replace them in 6 months with something even better (and then sell the R7's for half price or lower killing any value they may have)...I fear the day camera manufacturers get that way... |

I heard that the new replacement to the 10D is not very good at macro shots. something about the new sensor and larger pixels wont resolve bug eyes very well :)

I hear that its a 34.75 megapixel, can see through women's clothes and will wash your car but I don't want one because of the heavy anti-aliasing filter they put on it. It also sucks dust in (I think because they licensed part of the technology from Hoover or someone). You can take building-sized photos with it but they look like crap.
:)
Kev
P.S. - I think it'll convert to a BMW motorcycle for transportation to and from the photoshoot or event.
I'm just yankin' your chain. I'm excited to see what they deliver. If they come out with a successor to the 1Ds I'll have to get a divorce and mortgage the house again just so that I can "enjoy" my hobby. hahahaha - laughing at me now

Between 1300 and 1600 USD on the street, depends if there is one with a kit lens.

Looking over the cameras that people are using here. There are ALOT of the EOS Rebel DSLR cameras. Any major difference in quality between the 10D and the Rebel? I'm using a G3 myself which gets the job done and has more features than I even use at the moment. :-D

How can they stop making the 10D?? What if I don't want their latest, whiz bang whatever??? What if I was waiting for them to come with something else so that the 10D's would be cheaper??? They can't possibly stop making the 10D. Are they really going to stop making the 10D??? |

They already did. Production of the new model started in late July and that was also when production of the 10D stopped (possibly earlier because of the time needed to change the production lines).
At this moment there should be some available still at interesting prices (be aware of scams!).
Don't worry about the price, they can't possibly make it more expensive.

of course they can, they just have to make it worthwhile...
say, pulling ideas out of the air, that it is an 8Mp, 1.3x 35mm frame crop factor, 3-4fps, 10 frame buffer camera with the same AF system as the 1DMkII and the same body as the existing 10D, with faster processing and decent E-TTL like the high end cameras have, with maybe only a 7 point AF, rather than 45 point or something.
I could easily see something like this (roughly equivalent to an EOS-3 - so call it an EOS-3D) selling back up in the same price range as the D60, at the $2500 mark.
Makes a lot of sense, given that the existing 10D and 300D markets overlap a lot - it would clean up their product line back to low middle and high tier SLRs and probably make quite a bit of cash for them, from the users who don't want/ need the professional quality of the 1D but need a lot more than than the 300D offers or care about using WA and so on and want a reduced crop factor camera with decent AF.
Yes I am projecting what I'd like to see a bit, but it doesn't seem widly crazy to think the replacement might be $1000 more then the 10D currently costs.

I would think that Canon would not want to abandon the $1500 DSLR though.

I'd like to see an auto sensor dust bunny killer on the 11D.

I don't think they did - I think they just repackaged it at $1000 and called it a rebel.
You have a point, but there is a huge gap between the 10D and the 1D, price and feature wise.
