I knew that you had some health problems but I still had hoped that you somehow would be able to pick up the camera again to take pictures Shez:-( Would the Lytro at least give you back some of the picture taking ability?

It is late now but I will answer your request on the morrow ...which will also give this thread a bump;-)

Rainy Daisy Days

The first and only idea that came out EXACTLY how I pictured it in my head. The day the idea came to me we had just finished watching Mary Poppins the night before. I was driving with my girls somewhere and it was a bit grey and raining slightly. Then the visual just popped into my head along with the words "When one is down and spirits are dampened one can always find a "drop of golden sun" even on the overcast of days. Those rainy & grey days can turn into Rainy Daisy Days if your forecast is to maintain a sunny outlook." (and it was spoken in Julie Andrews voice even though she never spoke those words in real life)

It's that Smile

Brought a yoga ball to the park and my daughters and just had...well a ball with the photo shoot and then rolling it down the same hill as was taken with Rainy Daisy Days. I just love the toss of the head and that smile.

A Song on the Wind

This is my eldest when I caught her in a rare candid moment of daydreaming. I have tried since then to capture a moment just like this but to no avail. I just love how the wind blows her hair and how it frames her beautiful face. It's as if the wind is playing music only she can hear. I submitted this to the Best Of challenge. No matter how it performed, submitting it was a personal message to my eldest daughter. She IS beautiful - I hoped one day she will grow comfortable with herself; that she will finally hear the inner song that will make her self-esteem blossom. My children, my family, are my "Best of" always. She has since come around and is smiling again - there are still days of struggle with herself but no where near the frightening level it was before.

My Music Box

I remembered a photo done a few years ago by deviantART artist Mary AKA Devilicious in which she took on the conceptual idea of how abusive words can hurt by effectively using a cardboard box. Well I did NOT want to copy her idea/work so I wondered if there was a way to do something similar but with a inspirational or 'feel good' theme to it. Then it hit me. The inspiration came from looking at my youngest music box in her room and I instantly thought of the jingle of the ol'Coke a Cola commercial. The one that goes "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony".
Again this was a re-shoot because there was problems with the first shoot. I am grateful for my youngest who was patient and up to doing a re-shoot. And I was absolutely floored and surprised with her becoming more actively involved in the direction. I had asked her to smile and tilt her head as if she was listening to the music when she said, "Hey, Mommy, wouldn't it be better if put my hands on the earphones to show I really like the music?". LOL, she gave me better direction on how to take an excellent picture that day:-)

A Boy and His Castle

A true serendipity moment. Right place, right time. One that has not come along again so far. On vacation on the island of Captiva I had the lucky discovery of this sand castle built on the beach just outside the Mucky Duck Restaurant. A few children were milling about playing around the castle or adding a few touches to it while waiting with their parents to be called inside for dinner at the restaurant. I snapped a few pictures and caught an excellent shot of this boy playing by the castle.

Fixing A Hole

A lot of prep work went into getting the shot ready and this was the second attempt at getting the final result (day one - the light was not right). I feel it captures the whimsy nature of many of the Beatles songs. I also am grateful for my husband proves to be a loving and understanding partner with my crazy photography obsession. Who else would go out the front door and stand in front of a large tablecloth taped to the side of the house in a tuxedo jacket, with hat & upside down umbrella, and iron in 96 degree weather? We sure did get a lot of strange looks from the neighbors:-)

First Touch of Day

Sometimes it is very worth it to get out of bed early on a really cold day. Took this on one morning while on vacation out in North Carolina. Morning was holy, moly cold in the low 30's with some wind chill. Taken at 7:54 a.m. just as the sun rose over the mountains. My hands were pretty cold after 20 minutes of trying to get a good shot where the wind did not blow the leaf blurry. I just loved how the sun kisses/peaks out from the leaf.

Breath of Morning

Again taken in the early morning on vacation out in North Carolina. The night before it was forecast to have fog so I knew I wanted to try to get up early to take a picture of it blanketing the mountains. I awoke early (no one else wanted to come with me). I have to admit I was nervous because neighbors had reported a black bear walking around the area last week. So I went out with my tripod just in case. I walked down the street to get a better angle and shot of the mountains. It was breathtaking to see and experience. I was out there for about a half hour -40 minutes snapping away pictures happily. I heard the chatter of the birds singing, squirrels chattering and some dogs barking. I was taking the last few pictures when I noticed....the squirrels had chattered very noisely and then stopped. I heard no bird song nor dogs barking. The hairs on the back of my neck raised up. When the forest goes quiet all of a sudden like that there is very good reason. I hightailed it back up to the street and into the safety of the house. I don't know for sure if the bear was out wandering in the woods but you don't ignore your gut telling you danger is approaching. So this picture for me reminds me that there is stunning beauty in nature, but one be best aware of your surroundings.

Hi Shez!
Here are a few images that I enjoyed finding, photographing, and sharing with my DPC friends.

This one was quick and simple, yet turned out to be so colorful.

It's my grandson. We were enjoying a canoe ride on the local river.

This was a most incredible hour in the air.

This was another wonderful hour.

This one has been my desktop image for quite a long while now.
Shez, I hope that you can still see well enough to enjoy them.
Thanks for posting this thread.
You always make us think about how good life can be, and remind us about what a gift it is to just be here, and able to share a little of our lives with others around the world.
Hugs,
WT

I love black and white. And I love portraiture. These images are ones that I like because I think they came off pretty well. I find it hard to shoot something I genuinely like.

This image holds a lot of memories for me. I was fortunate enough to go to the Vancouver Olympics with my daughter in 2010. It had been a life long dream to get to the winter games at some point in my life. I realized my dream didn't even come close to the memories I have from this trip. It took me 6 years to save for 3 weeks in Vancouver with 27 events and a lifetime opportunity of 3 wonderful weeks living a dream with my daughter. Short track speed skating is one of my favourite events.

I have been a member for 2 years now and this was and still is my favourite challenge. I remember shooting for it, I remember voting on it and I remember how everyone was so positive. This image always makes me smile! Thanks Shez!

The image isn't the best but I love it anyways. I had the opportunity to go out on a whale watching trip for a full day in St. Andrews NB. There or only an estimated 440 Right whales left in the world and on this trip we must have been surrounded by 40-50 of them. On a previous trip we were surrounded by 90-100 and they alway leave a lasting impression on me. There are 3 right whales in this image and they were part of a SAG. ( Surface action group)

bump -- I started this awhile ago, and had too many images that were special and had particular meaning, so I needed to weed it down. They've since been closed. I will start again and get something in soon. But bump for others who also meant to do this.
