That seems to be a section of gasketing or weather strip.

Getting in the right direction, but it has a specific purpose and it's not keeping water out.

Is that a sticky strip to attach to the bottom of a door to stop a draft? |

Nope. It's actually something you are familiar with and have seen in slightly different forms.

Is it used as shown, or is this a cut-off piece?

This is how it came, though they can come in both longer and shorter lengths, as needed. Easily cut to size as well.

It does not seal anything, but does go between things.

Is it intended to act as a "bumper" to prevent contact between things?

Not for RF shielding, but very close.

A shield used in a copier / printer to prevent light or electrostatic contamination on the "ionized" roller. |

No, getting colder, in fact. It is from a copier, but could be used in many other things for the same purpose. EMI/RF was close, but not quite there.

Is it the absorbent pad that ink gets squirted into every time you do print head cleaning. Which I have to do every other time I use my printer until I burn through entire ink cartridges filling up that infuriating absorbent pad sending me into a incoherent rage and take a bat to my printer office space style.
I've worked trough my aggression issues... I use a laser printer now.

Is it the pad that the paper passes over to bleed static as it is being transported into the printer?
