Cool! There are a bunch of good ideas there... and it's easy to "vote" for what you like (with the +1 button on the description page, or the star on the right on the main list)
AND we can add our own suggestions to be voted on (so keep checking back to vote on them)!
Thanks, Langdon!

In the upcoming remake "Dredd 3D", the villain manufactures a drug called " Slo-mo" that slows time down to 1% of normal time.

DPChallenge v2.5 sounds like a decent title for an entry in the Yes or No challenge. |

How much from Get Satisfaction has been implemented? How nuch is it getting used now? The cynic in me says it seems that it might have been better titled "Get Distraction"... but then, I've not been around a lot lately. |

Back from a very relaxing vacation.
I have been disconnected literally. No internet, no email, no phone. It was very liberating.
I have been thinking alot about my photography. I would really love to join this again, to participate in challenges and side challenges. The conflict however is that this site needs changes and the problem is the owner has shown a half hearted effort to make them.
This thread is a perfect example, it looks as if there was promise but it just died out, its clear that many folks here, like me, love this site and are sad to see it not improve and fear that it is regressing. Validations take longer, challenges aren't posted right away any longer, perks members pay for like dpc prints break and take too long to fix, etc.
I'm torn between giving in a joining again or taking a stand not paying until I see an effort for improvement. My fear is that Langdon doesn't care I and others aren't paying, leaving me missing out on the fun to conduct a fruitless protest. |

Couldn't be any worse than another 4 years of this ...

This was a joke. Stop taking this stuff so seriously. It's a photography website for crying out loud. Just thought the thread needed another thumb.

I hate it when people are mean and unappreciative about Langdon. This website is a bargain and a great community, and we wouldn't have it without him. |

It might be different if Langdon's attitude was "This site is what it's ever going to be. Take it or leave it." it's the unfulfilled promises of change and lack of response to inquiry that frustrates the hell out of people. |

While I can't truthfully say that I'm frustrated as hell, I tend to agree. At least talk to us once in a while! |

when you take money from paying customers you open yourself up to criticism from those customers.
the community is great because of the people here, not because of Langdon.

Can I point out that if Langdon were to try and read and respond to these threads, he really have no time to try and make any actual changes, not to mention the persistently negative tone being pretty discouraging. Personally I'm glad he's had the patience to not just pack up his site and go home ...
He has fulfilled the original "promise" (made when paid memberships were set up) to have at least one challenge/week open to anyone for free -- everything beyond that I consider a bonus ... |

The negativity in this thread is truly a downer, that's a fact. I can in some respects relate to the frustration, though. People become invested in the community, and want to see it succeed, grow, flourish. Yet they have no control, no input. When they are finally asked to give input, very little happens. That, if you ask me, is a prescription for frustration.
If we are ever to move forward, L has to delegate some responsibility and the community has to have a clear, public plan to advance the state of things. Then we need to hold to the plan, no excuses for not meeting the schedule. That's the *only* way to get it done. |

I don't understand your your putting "promise" in quotes, the beginning of this very thread amounts to an admission to understanding much of the frustration here and then followed by what seemed to be an earnest desire by Langdon to act on these ideas and frustrations. Did he say "i promise"? No, but certainly got everyone excited that changes were coming. If you were renting a house that had a leaky roof and the landlord kept promising to fix it but never did, would you think "well I'm not going to comlplain because he has a lot on his plate and I am just glad this house is here, he didn't have to build it"? I think not.
Everytime someone expresses these feelings, SC always seems to have to jump in like Langdon can't speak for himself and chide us for complaining in any little way. When a large portion of the community feels a certain way, it's time to stop wringing your hands about the negativity expressed and freaking DO SOMETHING about it!
People are negative because they LOVE this place, if they didn't CARE they would LEAVE.

Apart from the presentation, what is everybody's main grievances towards this site ?
I'm probably just some thick country bumpkin but I don't have that many complaints, I'm just happy that there are challenges to enter and that this is not a Facebook popularity contest type site, I don't want to change this place to look more like me, that would be detrimental to me and to my photography.

I think more people would leave is there was a good alternative. I've searched for other competition sites and can't find one that quite matches this.
So here's a thought for you, despite the fact that people are complaining about the lack of change, the lack of progress, the lack of innovation, those things are all out there, and yet, people choose to stay here and complain.
Interesting, don't you think?
Saying that, I've stopped paying membership some time ago as I don't feel it's worth it anymore. Guess there's a balance.
One day, an alternative will come along which appeals to this community, and I think apart from a few faithful, THAT will be the end. |

Pretty much how I feel. The one thing I would like to see is a return of the DPL, but that's really my only complaint. I wish I had more time and energy to shoot, it's hard to find time with 4 kids and a full time job. I can't blame Langdon for that though. |

The roof is not leaking. He did fix the broken shopping cart at DPCPrints, although I admit it took too long, and he made it easier to upload and increased our portfolio space. I feel like people just want some shiny new furniture. The navigation on this site is the best on the Internet, IMO, and I'd hate to see that messed up. I don't like the way Facebook is constantly changing things -- as soon as the members get comfortable with the navigation, it gets changed, and people scream bloody murder. |
