if it's any consolation: for a foreigner like me, it was clear from the beginning what was meant, because of the word miniature. I even understood why it was placed between quotation marks.

Hey Jacko: That shot is a gem. Melts anybody's heart. That would have certainly climbed to the top.

I caught this little guy last weekend (it figures). I took a picture of him on a penny, too, but without a challenge or macro lens handy I didn't put much effort into it. Wish I had this frog back this week!

My daughter found him. Little eyes for little critters, I guess.

After reading through this whole thread, I don't think this meets the challenge. A young version of something is not miniature; It is just small. Doesn't miniature imply a permanence and isn't a permanently small frog much like a "toy" dog. In an earlier post, the reason cited for the quotes around "miniature" was to distinguish the word from common synonyms like "toy," among others.

Nice pic, though.

Oh I think it definitely does! I don't know a lot about frongs, but I don't think all the species are that small! I've never seen one that tiny before! It's adorably minature!!

So a Chihuahua next to a Great Dane would also work? Same logic applies...Not all species are that small. The problem is this: if the thing stays that small it isn't a miniature version of something that is normally larger. It is as big as all the others of that particular variety of frog, dog, etc.

Point taken but I don't know... I think a chihuahua sitting next to a big dog could work too. Depends on the way the photo is done. If it really emphasizes the "minature" nature... sure, why not? Most dogs usually are bigger than a chihuahua. Works for me. :)

OK- you folks are REALLY overthinking this thing. Take a picture of something that shows just how little it is compared to what most people would consider "normal" size. That's all there is to it.

The frogs shown below are excellent examples (well, Jacko's is anyway). They are unusually small compared to most frogs, and there is some context that demonstrates their size. A toy doberman pinscher might work, but a chihuahua wouldn't because they are normally small. Now go shoot!

But a toy doberman next to the Chihuahua would be perfect! It's easy! Think backwards.

Think backwards carefully, or you run the risk of making the chihuahua look HUGE.

This should be a interesting challenge!

Indeed, with half enjoying the nice images for what they are, and the other half being anal retentive and trying to crap on photos because it doesn't fit into their interpretation of choice.

Peanut says..."Do not refer to my people as miniature...if you do not refrain from such defamation, you may all kindly kiss my a$$."

I personally think he suffers from "little man" syndrome...but I sure wouldn't tell him that!
