my little wooden man gallery
I'll be adding more soon...I just got a second one, about 5" tall, so it looks like a child. Can't wait to work with the two of them together! :o)

Ikea. There's one in East Palo Alto... shouldn't be far from you at all.
They're something like 6 bux.

What are they actually called? Do they have a name? |

I found both of mine on eBay under IKEA, but you can search wooden mannequin, wooden figure...those kinds of things. I think they are actually used for figure drawing exercises and the like. Check art supply stores or craft stores as well. edit: I got the big one (12" or so) for 9.99 and the little one for 3.50.
Thanks, lizzyc3...I love experimenting with the lights and the figure...you can get such expression from them! :o)

mine are spelled mannikins (I think) and I got them at Charette, an art supply store nearby. They were about $8 usd each.

I bought mines at the IKEA in EPA for $6.99. You're not to far away. |

Various sized manikins here, and the flexi variety here. No affiliation, just a bookmark I had in my Favorites (although I've never actually ordered any myself). |

I've seen them available in Michaels and Wal-Mart. Should be able to get them from most art stores. They're used most often as artist manikins to learn how to draw people.

I saw some in Wal-Mart in the fabrics and crafts department.
Hope that helps...about 15 dollars Canadian.

They are cute, but they are starting to fall in the same category as cats, flowers and insects for me. it's possible to have too much of a good thing. ;)

I was thinking the same thing after the Words and Balance challenges.

I say, let's let poor "woody" rest.
He must be exhausted by now, with all his running from studio to studio, pose to pose, hanging from heights, standing on his hands, in precarious positions, bearing heavy loads. It's dangerous, I say, for him to be pushed and pulled and posed beyond the limits of his cellulose heart. He'll burn out, I warn you, ... or ... up.
Let him rest, I say!!! In fact (a pleading near silent sob) let him rest (voice subdued) in peace. |
