This was my photo for Words, I think maybe I should have titled it better maybe just "White" would have made it more obvious what I was going for. Not complaining about the score just wondering if that was a problem. Oh and by the way, I am white trash, it's all in fun, no harm meant to anyone.

If you made that sign, it might have been more obvious if you'd used white paint for the lettering :)

Your theme totally eluded me. Seems obvious now, but yeah, I just totally missed both what the title and the photo were about.

I thought for a second maybe the point was some kind of play on the American phrase "white trash" but read the title which made no sense in that context and assumed that wasn't the point and couldn't figure out what the point was so, yes, in my case, the title did spoil the impact.

I scored just on image instead and gave it a 5.

I would have got it if you made the title "White Trash"!

Remember many are not fluent in english so if you are going to use a phrase as theme its best to put it in the title.

Gave you 7 proabably and 8 with a better title.

I missed it too...makes perfect sense now! Maybe a confederate flag instead of the American flag-theme shirt would be more obvious...we see a lot of those in the south, you know! LOL ;o)

I rated you pretty high, because I got the idea right away, but i can see how somebody might miss it. I think it would ruin the fun if you titled it "White Trash," though. We wouldn't have the cute play on words, it would just be you telling us what was in the photo.

I woulnd't say the title ruined it, but I didn't understand its relationship with the photo. It's one of those situations where I didn't give the image/title combination enough thought time. I expect that others didn't either. You have to be direct here. You can't expect a viewer to spend any significant amount of time (more than 5 seconds) considering an image. There are some who do but I believe the majority does not.

Hmmm... maybe I'm just a simple girl, er um woman from TX but this guy doesn't look like white trash to me. He looks like a farm/ranch boy taking a break from his chores.

But now that you've explained, I see what you were going for and perhaps white would have been a better choice for the words.

See my original comment on the image. Although I did not "get" the title - I voted it really high. John S. is totally correct though - if a few of us "natives" did not get it (including a Texan - Laurie)- I bet MOST of the international voters didn't either.

Around here you sometimes need to kill ants with a sledgehammer.

Guess there aren't many mullet aficionados here. :-) But being that it is an international site it probably coulda hurt a little, seeings how even some people here in the states didn't get it. I, personally thought it was a cute title as well as cute photo....

PS - Glad to hear you cut it though. ;-)

I didn't get the connection during the voting either though it seems obvious now that I'm giving it a better look.

I think it would've been better to skip the trash can part and just do more of a portrait so that the mullet was clearly the intended subject. There might have been to many ideas going on there for a voter (moving a little too fast) to really catch. Simple ideas usually work better, especially around here. ;)

Cute photo though.

ETA: Nevermind. I just realized that the whole point was that this was for the "words" challenge so you can't really leave the words out. Anyway, good idea and sorry you lost some of us on it.

I, of course, new exactly what you were going for since im from Atlanta, Georgia, but thats not why i voted high.

The thing is, i vote for picture quality, not the words you used. I thought your photo was well composed, sharp, and had great coloring...

For that i voted high. Others (not from america or were confused about the title) should not have cared what the words meant.....its the photo that counts.

Thanks to everyone who gave a remark, I think if I had just titled it "White..." it would maybe have made more sense to more people.

I don't look at the titles when deciding my vote.

I vote on the technical merits, fitness for the challenge, and my personal 'vibe' from the photo.
