Among other things, balance is a state of equilibrium or a harmonious arrangement of proportion. Take a shot that illustrates the concept of balance.

I really did step outside the square with this one and photographed my subject in its surroundings thinking this was balance and harmony for my subject
Boy am I ever being hammered I cant bear to look at my score I think I'm in for the last place ribbon! LOL! and I really did try with this one am I on the same planet!

That's weird. They must really really like it or really really hate it.
I can't figure it out. I'm starting to get discouraged.

I expected it to get a lot of people disliking it, but it is a shot I like a lot and has been 5 years in the making... Who cares what the voters think ? Why get discouraged by them ?

Well... I always submit photos I really like. It would be nice, just every once in awhile, to have others like it as much as I do. It helps alot when someone picks a favorite. I'm beaming all day.
(It's hard to admit to myself that maybe I'm just average. My enthusiasm is at the top but public appeal is at the middle or lower.

The good news is, it was at 4.2 after 22 votes, and has been steadily climbing ever since. I am really looking forward to getting some comments, so that I can understand how people perceive what I did. Of course, I thought I had a top 10 entry for sure. Then again, I always think that, despite the fact that I have yet to break the top 20. Thank goodness my ego is out of control, otherwise I would have given up long ago. :)

Check your profile again, David. You've been in the top 20 twice. A top 10 is your next target :-)

You're right of course Len. I meant to say "break out of the the top 20". I have linguistic challenges to match my graphical ones. :)

I'm heading for my worst score since my first submission. I tried to get online yesterday and unsubmit after I knew that a simple, well taken photograph without a lot of post manipulation or FX is just mediocre with the new editing rules. But alas, I couldn't get online for some reason so my submission has to stay. 5.01 and falling :)

...the slide has begun...down to 5.98, but that's still a great and respectable score, so I'm not complaining. Although I really liked the 8.33 I had after 10 votes! LOL

Very scary that someone of your caliber would be affected by the changes here lately. There's a lot of the really excellent ones here who seem to feel that they are needng to just go with what they enjoy, regardless. You are a great photographer and I hope all the different styles and levels stay thriving here.

Kylie, thanks for your kind words :) I'm having fun watching my score degrade but it's very understandable.

I see shot after shot of simple, well taken photographs without a lot of post manipulation or FX. There are one or two with a bit of dodging/ burning and the selective desaturation challenge was all about that particular effect, but the rest seem just like well taken, competently finished photographs.

Started at 5.8 after just a few votes. It dropped down to 5.0 within a few hours but now is back up to 5.6. 3 comments.. all helpful.
07/19/2004 08:14:36 PM · #47
At 5.2, better than the start of it all this morning. Just no comments. This gets to be agitating to me because comments are very helpful. This is not my worst, its not my best but I received a majority of my comments on the first day of voting, now nothing at all. What is a person suppose to think when receiving no comments, I take it as it is just a regular photo to the majority. I dont know, maybe my blue will come on the next challenge, lol. Yes I suffer from delusions of grandeur!

Well in this case, how do most people vote a simple, well taken photo?
