I LOVE it! What a fun topic to wake up to! :) |

Important Questions:
* Are we designing the album cover, or just submitting a pic?
* Added text can easily start to look like a graphic and not simply text, is this allowed?
* Many TTF fonts look a lot like photoshop creations and not much like normal text, does that matter (extension of question above)? |

Maybe this link will get them "discovered" .... :-) |
I realize that I have become older than dirt without realizing it, and furthermore, that I no longer have useful technical skills.
So, given that I am a slow learner, how did you figure this out? |
I just searched the phrase "DPC Band" in Google and found something in the first few pages. Just took a stab at it and got lucky.

This may be a dumb question, but what does the little yellow flag next to the challenge title mean?

- Challenge has extra rules involved that may negate or add some rules.

Extra Rules: For this challenge, text may be added to your submission. |

This is from last month ...

Even cassette tapes are usually either crops of the album cover, or the square album cover padded with black or white space. I'd say (at the risk of being branded picky or, even worse, literal) yes, it should be square.
Though, you could take your non-square shot and pad it with a non-uniform frame to make it square. Lots of album/cd covers do that. |

hopper,
with the advanced editing rules, any of the things you have mentioned would be "legal" per se.
Some people will probably design the whole cover. Others may just do the picture.
Just be prepared to submit your original for verification if it looks to "graphicky" cause someone will probably ask.
If it is done as text and not in photoshop, then it would be okay, I would think, but defer to the answer above as far as being prepared to verify.
Does that help any?

My opinion would be that text is just that: text -- that is, letters, numbers, things you see on a normal keyboard. The use of a "wingdings" or "clip art" font would be clip art, and not text, and therefore subject to DQ. Just because the source of the clip art is a font doesn't make it acceptable. A simple test is to ask somebody to look at your "text" and say "Would you call this 'text'?" If they say "no", it is quite likely it could be DQ'd under the "clip art" rule.
Remember, the spirit of the DPC challenge rules is about photography. Being able to add text in a special situation like this should not shift the primary focus of your entry away from a photographic exhibition to something more akin to "graphic design".
Again, this is just my own opinion and how I'm likely to interpret any DQ requests. But remember the SC opinion is always by majority vote.

Well I think its kinda not fair having challenges like that where the title plays such an important role to us that dont have English as a native lang....
I actually think this challenge is more of a graphic design challenge than a photographing challenge.....

Album Cover Photos and Art
I found this site with many links to album cover photos and artwork; thought it was neat and might help us come up with some ideas. Peruse at your leisure! :o)
edit: there are a couple of dead links on the list...but there are a few that are just really neat and made me feel like an old fogey..."I remember buying that one...I remember my sister having that one..." Have fun! ;o)

I'm just telling it like it is. The site is predominantly an English site... the reality is that not many people are going to hunt down an Icelandic translation to understand the meaning of the shot. |

the meaning of the shot shoud be seen in the shot not the freaking title!
