newspaper article.
Wow, they even talk about °partial coloring°. I wonder if that'll ever catch on.
I'll certainly have a look at them next time I'm in a camera shop.

Perhaps as a back-up, but would depend on image quality.

I've been hankering after cameras that I can't afford. This might be the answer, but I'll hold off until they go through the usual run of refinement and price dropping that follows innovations. Of course I could wait forever if I wait for new technology and then wait for perfection, coz it's all a never ending cycle.

I bought an Olympus EPL1 a couple of weeks ago. I was in the airport and it was on special offer (as it's now been replaced by the EPL2). It was very inexpensive and is very good indeed. Obviously not SLR quality, but very good nonetheless. I will buy a couple more lenses at some point and then when travelling on business I won't bother taking the heavy stuff with me. So far, I'm a fan.

ETA. Here's a handful of the first pics out of the camera. Only editing was import to Aperture as RAW export as resized jpeg. I'm pretty impressed with the quality I got from this little camera (it's not much bigger than my point and shoot).

Olympus EPL1

Sensor size is important...I use a P+S..with a fairly large enough sensor

I love my Panasonic Lumix GF1, particularly with the fabulous 20mm f1.7 lens. I very much doubt i'll get any other lenses for this as that combo is pretty much perfect for what i want from it which is a compact, fast camera with good IQ for street stuff. I carry it everywhere really. I also really enjoy the video on it. That fast lens produces some lovely, creamy shallow DOF footage which is great. Highly recommended although i'm sure the GF2 is an improvement. I wasn't interested in the G2 or G3 line as the size was creeping back up to DSLR size which defeated the object of it for me.

MIL cameras are winning the hearts and minds of young hobbyists and female shutterbugs looking to take professional-looking photos without owning a pricy and bulky DSLR.
Now I am no femanist, but wtf? Why females?
I know "women" are always the ones who like to spend money (guilty as proven!) But it is really the case that people would bypass a decent camera for a fake lookalike?
Anyone know?
....
As I read through what I have just written it all becomes clear. Do not feel that you have to point out the obvious to what I have said as it is already obvious!

I'll say it: They fit in purses :-)

Because the feeble female body cannot handle the stupendous weight of something like a Canon 550D or such.. You are weak - you are feeble - but we now have a camera for you! And it comes in pink! Great for taking photos of Kittens and flowers!

Here in Japan there are a couple of monthly photography magazines aimed at woman - there's a style called °café°, as well.

I might or might not consider one, but they are not as compact as they seem. The bodies are nice and small, but due to the DSLR sized sensors, they require bigger lenses than small sensor compacts. My reason for buying a Canon G11 was the small size that fits in my laptop case and I can take cycling. A MIL wouldn't work for this purpose.

The only thing wrong with the MIL cameras is...they can't also upload directly to my website. Oh, and I need a place to plug in my earbuds. And it would be lovely if it would fit in my purse & come in accessorizable colors. Taking professional-looking photos with such a girl-friendly camera would be lots of fun. I like the idea of cafe style, too. I wish there were cafes in Alabama. All we seem to have is drive-up BBQ restaurants..

actually heading off to a major camera retailer now to get a feel of one of the olympus pens. but as olympus seems to be ready to announce possibly 3 new model pens should i wait to buy one until after the announcement or will it matter much? what historically usually happens with the price of the older models? do they drop soon after a new model release or does it take several months before we see any significant price changes?

How hard is it to manually focus with that lens? It looks so thin.

Ummmm...no, Puppy Bear...that's where the kitchen sink goes...;-P

I always keep my camera separate from my purse in it's own bag. I don't think cameras belong in purses...I guess I'm weird that way?

I'm thinking of buying a winkie cam but maybe the MIL would be an option.

Clive, how refreshing to see how secure you are with your feminine side...;-)

I had a MIL, but my ex kept her when we got divorced, thank God.

ROFL! Everytime I see the thread title I think this. (Well not exactly this.)

Why is it that you never hear about women getting in touch with their masculine side?

Wait, don't answer that.

Fortunately for you, Dear...I'm shy and behaving myself today.

I don't want no Girlie Camera...! If I can't impress people with my photos, then I need a big camera to do so.

Actually, I have more cameras than talent as it is. It all comes down to image quality and flexibility. If they make one with a great sensor and glass, and good controls, then I'd be interested. As it is, I am not in the market for a new camera. With 5 digi cams and 3 film cameras, I have more than enough to make it confusing every time I pick up a different one.

If anyone needs to know how to burn through half a roll of 120 film, in a Mamiya 645 Super, with the darkslide still in, I'm your guy...

I just wish they would/could make a mirror-less full size DSLR with a view finder. Then I wish I could afford one! LOL

1. Relying on a screen display in not as good as seeing through the lens.
2. It seems to me that holding a small body camera with a large lens would not be balanced.
3. Electronic view finders are dark and if you have eye problems it's almost impossible to achieve accurate focus.

I am in touch with my femininity indeed Mae, and the camera fits snugly into my purse/manbag along with cigarettes, miniature bottles of vodka and a knuckle duster. I learn a lot from Welsh women.

It's not too bad as you can just slide your finger round although as i don't have an extra viewfinder i don't do it that often. I do have it on MF most of the time though but tend to have it focused a few feet away and shoot from the hip focusing with my feet.

I will wait for Canon's second generation MIL before I am convinced. Even Nikon's second generation MIL may change my view.

I kind of like the term EVIL for these cameras. Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens
