Every now and again I get a little bit of a sweet tooth before bed. Depending on my schedule for the following day I will have some chocolate or a piece of bread with honey. Anyways, last night I had a couple of small pieces of chocolate and then an hour later went to bed. This morning, twice, I almost threw up the chocolate. Each time was like a sudden pain in my stomach and then me holding back on the puke. Drink a bit of water. I took an antacid like pill and the problem went away. This has never happened to me before. Was wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

I'm OK going to bed on a full stomach and have had big meals right before bed after a long day at work. I've never had an issue. I don't think this really warrants a visit to the doctor, he'll probably just say "Don't eat so close to bed time." Or "Maybe it was something else you ate." Although I can't think of anything else I ate that would have done this.

You don't live near one of those nuclear power plants, do you?

Could just be the result of getting a little older. Up through my 20's I had a cast iron stomach, but sometime in my 30's it changed and there were things I could not handle as well on an empty stomach.

Maybe you touched your mouth after touching a contaminated door knob or something?

Osaka is pretty far.

I used to be able to drink as much American beer as I wanted, now I can only drink good beer.

Could be a number of things, might even be stress related, the mind plays a bigger role than we think in a lot of these situations, any worry's at the moment ?. I have problems digesting heavy foods late at night, but i always have so i don't do it, maybe your body is saying enough is enough. I'm not mentioning the Nuclear aspect of things over there coz that would be silly. Try dark chocolate its much better for you.

Maybe you're pregnant? Just kidding.

In all seriousness, if your pain is on the right side, you need to get it checked out - could be appendix or gallbladder. Otherwise, it could be anything from mild food poisoning to stress to a stomach virus. Keep an eye on it and if it continues more than a day, I would consult a doctor.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

It might be worth reporting to your doctor for public health reasons. 360 miles is not that far where radiation is concerned.

Are you sure it's the chocolate? If you ate it last night and you're getting sick in the morning, it could have been something else.

Can't it just be a mild stomach flu?

Do you watch House? I'm sure that Dr. House and his staff would immediately diagnose you with Amyloidosis and then 52 1/2 minutes later figure out what the real problem is. But for now you could go with amyloidosis, get a spinal tap, and call me in the morning.

Oh, it's definitely the chocolate.
Now that you know that you can never eat chocolate again,
please wrap up your remaining stash of chocolate and send it to me.
I will tend to it carefully.

Best. Show. Ever.

Love your diagnosis by the way.

Somebody pooped and didn't follow proper handwashing protocol.

That's why I use "The Clean Hands Washroom Exit Strategy" in public washrooms. I've been doing it for a year now, and haven't been sick once. People are all sick, disgusting pigs.

I have formed a theory about you Jan that has 2 possibilities:

1. The things you say are lost in translation and just sound rude but are not meant to be.

2. You like to say rude things for the fun of it.

Either way I find it very entertaining so please don't stop.

The question now becomes 'Was it really chocolate?'.

Eat some more of the same chocolate. If it happens again, bingo! Otherwise it could be a number of things.

There was a guy at my former employer who would go in the stall, take a dump or pee and then walk right out the door to his next meeting or whatever. I dreaded going to a meeting and taking the risk that he might offer me his hand to shake...EWWWW.
