Mine isn't exactly Weston, although not too much of an improvement. |

I don't like weston either.
But... I never knew of weston before I started this site. His work look deceptively simple, and I found out that's just not the case. I've done more analyzing than I've done in a long time. And I did not succeed at the shots which I tried.
I'm incredibly sick of Weston!
And it's probably been the most informative challenge in which I've participated!!
But I'm still sick of Weston. :D |

Ok... just took 148 shots. Time to see if there is a gem in there... :)

LOL Wendy ... I feel your pain, short look at his work, I said snap shots.. but after many hours of study, AAARRRGGHHHH and the more I've done the less I feel it is in his style... it's NOT my taste. I too am SICK OF WESTON |

Well like him or not there was a lot to learn from this challenge. We learned that Weston sure loved the human form, fruit n' veg', soft curves and toilets! He was a provocative Chap to say the least especially when you consider the era....! My stomach's in my mouth but enter I did...be kind :)

Can you enter the Weston Challenge and the Disassembled or only one? |

Just one. The "Exclusive" part of the challenge means you can enter either one or the other of the Tuesday challenges. |

You can always unsubmit as well. Just go to the details page of your submission and click the "Unsubmit your photograph" link. Then you'll be able to post in the other challenge. |

I'll be able to follow your advice from your sig (i.e. "Rating each photo independently on its own quality"...) if you submitted the unique one from the bunch. Otherwise all bets are off. |

I bet mine is the most unique one in the pile there. But hey, the way I figure it go big or go home. |

I did really try on this challenge. I took about 30 or 40 photos with different setups and just couldn't get something good. I don't know why, but something is going on with my equipment. I am using the XSI and the nifty 50... and I just can't seem to get things sharp enough, especially around the edges, and at f8. I am just about to give up on that lens. It is really rare that I get anything in focus photo out of it, no matter what aperture I am using.
I am also really frustrated because I started to use PSE 9.0 and I can't do anything with it.
GRRRRR!!!!!

Was I even remotely close? When I compared my image to some of his landscape shots it seemed similar to me in feeling. Admittedly I didn't shoot this specifically for this challenge, but I did know it was a challenge and did have some of the research I'd done in mind when I shot it. I try to never shoot just for a challenge, but rather let the challenge influence what I normally would have shot anyway for myself.

Well if you don't shoot for the challenge, you had better hope more people ignore the challenge when they vote. |

My question had nothing to do with my score. I merely asked if I was close in the style. This is a genuine question, and I mean nothing more than that. I didn't know much of this photographer before the challenge was announced, so the days prior to the challenge were a cram session. Like I said in my original post, based on that limited research I felt my image had a similar feel.
There's several people in this thread that have a far greater grasp on this artist's work, so to them I ask, "Was I even remotely close?" I ask because I want to learn; that is all. |

No expert, but I gave you 7 [second highest for me]. I agree with your other comments received, could have been made darker, with the blacks more of an ink colour. Still a beautiful image. |
