Thanks Sarah,

I am a paid member, but I only have 3 pictures in my workshop folder...so any pictures that I have in there would likely be past or future submissions. So anyone perusing my folder would know which pictures in a challenge were mine?

Is there a way to only have certain pictures in your workshop folder visible to certain people?

Workshop doesn't navigate like other folders. We can only see images you link us to. We can't browse the folder, it's invisible to us. This is in my workshop folder: click on it and see how it's a dead end?

Thank you Robert, that explains it nicely. So what's in the folder is mine to see only, unless I post a link to a particular picture?

It goes without saying, but use the thumbnail feature (second tiny icon from the right in your compose message box) to send a clickable thumbnail. URL links are less useful.

Guess what? I clicked on the collection name of "2011" and I was able to see everything else in that folder, including a challenge entry I recall voting on yesterday. I was unable to navigate upwards to the parent workshop, however.

This could be a problem.

Oops, you might want to move or hide those files now, Robert.

Added: I tried it with a couple of other PM'd feedback images. It appears that if the image is in the main workshop folder, then the other person cannot see anything else. If the image is in a subfolder of the workshop, then everything in that folder can be browsed.

Simple solution...

If you help, and they take your advice, and the image browns out, then you owe them a 1 year gift subscription.... ;-)

That's odd. Thanks for the heads-up. I can hide, individually, any of the images in that subfolder, so I did that with the one challenge entry. Very strange that workshop subfolders are not hidden like workshop folders. I have a LOT of stuff in there... in MANY subfolders.... Be a real chore to prune it, as a lot of it is linked to threads...

Yes, there is a problem...I could view anything from any of your folders on the left hand side. Hmm...not quite the security I think existed?

That shouldn't be a problem, as any thumbnails in threads are done by image ID. Unless you were using the URL...

That stuff on the left was just his portfolio, which is shown because it is supposed to be browsable..

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I'm a little slow on the uptake.

wow! Look at the list we have already!!

Question: would one open a query photo up to the whole group of individuals listed for discussion/suggestions(ie. a generic "I need help"), or would one PM an individual/s with the picture ID for private discussion? As much as I like the former idea in that you get many opinions, I wonder whether anyone who has given feedback prior to submission may subsequently be biased to your picture during submission?

Garry,

You wouldn't want to send it to this forum or all users could see your challenge entry. You would want to PM individuals on the list for opinions, OR, you could ask in this forum if anyone is interested in critiquing your photo.

Hope that helps!

There are two ways to go about it:

Post in this thread "hey! is anyone around that could give an opinion on a photo or 3 (or 5...)?"

Or PM a couple of select people from the list.

You might get faster responses by posting the query here. BUT DO NOT POST THE PICTURE HERE. Just the request for feedback.

edited to add:

oops, too slow. :D

I sent in a ticket regarding the hiding of subfolders in the workshop. They told me GeneralE just brought it to their attention as well, and Langdon has been asked to look into it. Ought to be a pretty simple coding change, no problem, I'd think.

Meanwhile, deposit your test images directly in "workshop", NOT in a subfolder within workshop. To be safe.

I think this is a great plan! I would like to take advantage of this, for sure. I would be willing to comment as well, but one of the things I have learned in the short time I have been a member here is: I need some photographic education. 98% of what I know about photography I learned right here in the 4 months I've been here - and there is still SOOOOO much to learn. One of these days I will take a class at the local Jr. College, but honestly, I have some other time sensitive priorities before I can tackle that. What are the thoughts of past entries along with a query like "how could I have done this differently to have earned 6.5 instead of 4.5?" or something along those lines? Or is that better as an open forum question? I really appreciate the feedback and honesty I get here on my entries. I don't seem to get many comments, but I think that's because people don't care to leave negative seeming remarks. Anything I can learn from is not negative - for sure!

Ok -- I thought I'd break the ice, I have narrowed my choices down to 2 photos (for best of 2010), anyone care to give an opinion/suggestions?

Me, you don't need to ask, Wendy :-)
