I was going to add this before, but never got around to it. Jedusi's comment reminded me to post.

Not to rain on anyone's parade - but what is a portrait to you??? I thought generally head and shoulders shot. I'm seeing a lot of full body images that I would not consider portrait.

Here are three shots taken with essentially the same set up. First attempt at a "studio setup"

Ava was soo sick but wanted her picture taken!

Aaron had to be bribed with the candy cane.

Proud parents!!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments.

Head and Shoulders is certainly a type of portraiture, popular with "studios", but posed photograph of a person is a portrait, as compared to a snapshot of someone or action photography. More specifically a portrait is a likeness of a person. Someone's "likeness" is not always best captured in the face alone, nor against a muslin backdrop.

I'm falling behind on commenting. I'll catch up by Saturday. It's been a hectic week.

Toward the end of high school swim season the boys first dye their hair and then, a few days later, they shave their head. Here is an image of two pics I took of my son 24 hours apart.
