Some have been intersted in the lighting for this shot of Alinka

I will post the setup, but first I thought it would be a good exercise if people could figure out the lighting and post here. When I see a pic I like I will study it to see where the light is coming from and jot it down.

Fresh portrait of my wife and in-laws. I used one 4ft octabox w/500w strobe up high on the left side on ths outdoors portrait and the 4ft octabox plus a 4ft softbox on the indoor shot.

good exercise. if i would guess, i see one flash bouncing on the bg, one hairlight, one main light directly above and slightly in front of her, and a fill light on her face.

Studio shot but with good natural light behind the camera and a single strobe high camera right.

I guess I should have posted these shots earlier. Here is the rest of the shots from the shoot with Kelly. (posted earlier)

The lighting setup for Kelly 1, 2 softboxes, 1 directly above and one directly below on the ground facing up for fill. The back ground was underexposed. Here is another similar style
This one was just one softbox, positioned to camera right , high and pointed down. Shot at around 3pm with 1 or 2 ND filters(cant remember)
You can see how light it was when we were shooting. These ones with flash were shot first then went to the natural light shots.

Here are the rest from the series. All natural light. I should mention that there was a reflector used also.

I am trying to improve my portraiture...my home studio is up again, so hopefully I can join in (not on the list).

Took some shots of Kelsey, the other day. Critical would be very welcome. One thing I really need to work on, besides lighting (I'm using two SB-600 flashes and umbrellas), is posing. I am considering buying an Alien Bee so I can take advantage of the modeling light to help visualize. I don't know how well that will work with my Nikon remote.

Here's a few shots of Kelsey...shot just the other day...

Neil, overall very good light. the only thing I would suggest is to fix the green light reflecting onto your subject from your green screen. Here is a link from photoshop mama on how to fix that. I think around the 22:00 mark. The whole video is very good.

Thanks Leo. I actually used GreenScreenWizard Pro to cut it out, because when I've done it manually in the past, it takes me "forever", and that makes it a pain to use green screen. I actually stopped using one over the past year (not that I do a lot of these shoots), but I started again because I wanted to have more background options without buying a million backgrounds and having to change them during a shoot. I may not have turned on the option to remove reflections from the subject on that one...it seems to do a pretty good job. But definitely, I watched the video and I like her technique for cleanup. That's better than my old method to clean up spill (I was using color replacer, though I didn't do that on this one).

Thanks!

Neil, i am not familiar with Green screen Wizard. I will check it out. What i do is select the background using the Color Range option and using the eyedropper. Usually does a pretty quick job selecting and then i will go into my mask and touch up from there.
Or background eraser. That one is a little trickier to use. But still effective.

Leo

Here is the setup. No light was set on the background. It was lit by whatever light came from the ones setup.

I need to figure out a better solution for photographing my granddaughter. These were done on my dining room table with fabric hung from the ceiling fan to the table. Lighting was external flash bounced off the white ceiling along with the lights in the ceiling fan. She really wasn't cooperating tonight at all. Normally she's a ham, tonight she wasn't a happy camper.
