Thats a nice project, I like the poses, especially "Love is the Stitch that Sews us Together". Have you tried a black background? |

Yeah, but I didn't like the sheen (it was posterboard) so I am going to make a trip to Wally World tomorrow for some new black fabric that might work better. Thanks...the stitch one is my personal favorite too. :o)

Hi Laurie
Personally, I like the last one the best; the DOF and lighting are great, and the lines of the arms to the object (ring) come together in a 'sweeping', pinching flow from the more massive (yet decentralized by the DOF) body center. Er, does that make sense, or should I have another beer and try again?! Or maybe it's the ring-shape of the arms accenting the ring itself that I'm trying to say?
Anyway, great stuff!
Cheers

Hey Laurie, They're pretty cool! I've meant to get myself one for some time now. You just inspired me to just go to the local arts store. Thanks!

The lighting is great. How/what are you lighting with? All of your pictures lately have been awesome. How are you able to do this? New camera, reading photography books, etc?

I like the clarity of 4, 5 and the one with a black background. On the love one, did you try hairspray to mold the thread into a heart? I like it a lot is the only reason I said that. Good project. You used a lot of variations that I haven't seen before.
Heading out to Ben Franklin tomorrow. |

Thanks! Oh, I use those fascinating and extremely high-tech lighting instruments we call...desk lamps. LOL
I have a little 20 watt halogen lamp, a 40 watt architect lamp, a 100 watt reflector lamp we use in the garage (the kind you can clamp onto things), and for really big effects (ha ha) I have a 500 watt halogen work light. I'm so artistic, you know, so I have to have the best equipment! ;o)

I will have to try that with the hair spray...that thought never occurred to me! Great idea...and Ben Franklin...that's a store I haven't seen in a long time. I thought they'd all disappeared! :o)

They're quite green, but I did boost the sats a tad since it was kind of poor lighting. Thanks! :o)

Laurie, setting aside the great temptation to make some snide comment about how you're playing with wooden stick figures now, I'd better just simply say that those shots were quite impressive! It seems to me that your talent and skill is growing by leaps and bounds. I enjoy looking at your work.

Ikea has them for real cheap, Laurie, some thing to do, put a rubber band around the arms at the elbows, that way you can put heavy items in the arms. Also try shooting in the dark with controlled flashlights, like those little key lights (more blue). Have fun. |

Awww..thanks guys. This one that I got is an IKEA, but when I tried to order one the IKEA site says they're only available from their stores...one is in Europe and one is in Pennsylvania. The Michael's store closest to us doesn't carry them, so I just went the eBay route. I want to get a couple more, maybe in different sizes, just to fiddle with and learn some lighting techniques. I'm going to try that flashlight thing...and the rubber band thing...and the... :o)

i like the picture, but i feel if you had been able to capture the texture of the background a little better the shots would be flawless.

The background is foam board...I don't know how much texture I can get from that, but I will definitely try...I'm still learning new things every day! :o)
