I think, if you're telling a story in the process, you could do it with 3 crops of the same image to make the triptych... I mean, I could imagine an ear, an eye, and a mouth working together in a triptych, for example...

Apparently not all of us. But that would certainly be the consensus...
For those who believe it means "a triptych in portrait orientation", I offer the thought that this would mean, could ONLY mean, 3 horizontal images stacked into a portrait-oriented composition. So 3 vertical images combined into a landscape triptych would be DNMC. Just sayin'....
gawd!
I'm waiting for the first person who asks if a Pet Portrait meets the challenge...

haha someone asked about the pets.. |

No doubt. I am blown away by the conversation over this challenge. Why so many rules? Just shoot what moves you and put it in a series. |

hehe- yea i rather liked the effect of it too- she is translucent over the background like a water nymph... the mystery of who she is remains- and its a lovely portrait study in my opinion of form/ and atmosphere... but how much would it get pummeled is my question
i did one for fun but wouldn't dare enter it in this challenge cuz it would proli get a ton of 1's uploaded it to my profile today for kicks--
still trying to figure out if people expect literally portraits...? ie-of people? or perhaps if animals/objects count too? IE if i do a portrait of an apple rotting away? or- a portrait of a plate of food then part of it gone then all of it gone w/just fork and knife? or..... hmmmmm
lol

Think of it this way - If the title of the challenge was 'Portrait' what would you do?
Then multiply that by three keeping in mind that some sort of narrative overall would be good.

(sorry somebody had to do this)
from merriam-webster:
Portrait: a picture; especially : a pictorial representation of a person usually showing the face
I don't see anything about orientation in there. Do what toddhead said. Shoot what moves you and put it in a series. Who cares if the voters don't agree? What's the worst that will happen? A bad score? Cool. I'll take a bad score on an awesome series of photos any day :) |
