It kind of stinks its basic editing, hdr would make some great bridge images.

also no lens correction is going to hurt my image. im going to try another one tomorrow, but i don't know if i can get around it with my access to the site.

The timing just sucks for me lately. I really would have loved to have been able to shoot for this, but I cannot do it.

You could do a "Pseudo HDR" from 1 single RAW image. That is allowed.

Is that legal? You couldn't do it by hand without layers and masking. Is photomatix legal in basic?

Topaz sometimes looks like HDR too.

Personally, I think that this of all challenges really doesn't require anything in the way of special editing techniques to produce a good image. Bridges are awesome!!!!

(Says he who lives near a river with a plethora of cool bridges to shoot! LOL!!!)

Yes Photomatix is legal in basic. There are some long running discussion threads on this subject.

you know, for all the challenge descriptions saying

"...A bridge is not always a physical structure...."

in this and past Bridge challenges, it seems that only REAL PHYSICAL STRUCTURES have scored high in past challenges. that sucks. i was going to try to be more creative.

oh well.

oh my! I just stumbled across this, and thought it was very cool! Too bad we don't have expert editing.

Talk about irony. I was in New Mexico all last week, and was hoping for a landscape friendly challenge while I was there. Bridges is certainly landscape friendly, but I was in a place that has great landscapes and very few bridges, because they have no rivers. Arggh! I'm in knees down this week.

HA! That's the 360 bridge in Austin! bergiekat and I were going to shoot it, but being basic editing, well it wouldn't be as fabulous as the pic you posted. I went for the knees down.. fingers crossed!!

Irony, I work on a bridge, just outside Moab, over the Colorado river. 12-17 hour days,
leave only food and sleep on off hours, not a good place to take camera during work.

I beg to differ. :-((

Unless something has changed, you cannot use Photomatix to tonemap a single RAW file. I found out the hard way.

Something HAS changed, as of November 2009, when the rule was rewritten. Now we can use any software that does not involve making selections, as long as what we do is not deemed to be adding an "effect" to the image, and the bar seems to be pretty high on that, from what I am seeing validated.

The basic issue that caused the change, I believe, was that shadow/highlight in Photoshop has always been legal, and when they issued the ruling a couple years back that programs like Topaz, Photomatix, etc were illegal, but exempted shadow/highlight, and exempted (as always) the increasingly sophisticated tonal controls of the RAW-processing engines, this just became wildly inconsistent. I can do tone mapping with CS3, I can do it with ACR, but I am NOT allowed to do it with Photomatix or Topaz? That was where it was at for a while, until they corrected the inconsistency.

Or that's how I read it at the time, anyway. But I'm not SC.
