Note also that 'a close-up shot' is specifically included in the challenge description. |

I spent three days taking photos, have over 500 photos, a sore back one day, the back legs sunburned the next day, and I think the neighbors now officially certify me as nuts for laying on my stomach for an hour and a half outside waiting for *YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING* to co-operate.
I *think* I might finally have something - going to look at the card now. |
I'm trying to take it to the next level myself and I'm getting a heap of frustration for my effort so far. 0 for about 300. I've got two more days. :) |

LOL. After complaining I went back out for another try and got my entry within three shots. Sometimes it works like that... :) |

Which ruins the whole macro concept for me here on DPC. We should have specific 1:1 macro challenges once in a while. It would eliminate a lot of flower, water drop, insect shots right off the bat. |

Or the very last shot taken in frustration after screwing up 350 times. Or taking the camera off the tripod and going freehand and bang, you get that one shot you were going for but never got with your steady tripod. lol

I just wandered around my apartment complex for the last three hours often times laying in the grass or crumpled up in a painful position. A few minutes before coming in I was sitting with my neighbor's cat in the grass and a 85+ year old lady walking by said, "Take your shirt off, I won't look."
....errrrrr ...wait what???!!! I asked her to repeat herself, and she said the same thing. I feel so dirty, lol. |

Good for you! Good luck in the challenge:-)
Well, took a very critical look at the 50 shots I took today. Out of over 500+ shots total -- only 2 are in excellent category by my critical eye. Will be busy processing them....and dealing with the lobster red sunburn on the back of my legs (chock it up to what crazy photogs will do to get the shot)

I have experimented a few shots with the new extension tubes I got last week. I am not going to post any photos yet, because they did not come out very well and here is why. Try to take photos noon under the sun around 105 degrees, you get little shaky hand.
I tried my 70-300 and all the tubes I have, results in the view finder awesome. Getting that close without actually getting that close is good if you're taking bugs... however, tripod a MUST. That lens gets too long, it's impossible for anyone to keep it steady. Even with burst I couldn't get a good shot.
I tried with 28-105, and used less extension tube, results are good, but I had to get very close to the subjects... with that sun top of me, I lost my balance a few time, I didn't know if I was going forward or backward (no auto-focus with these tubes)
At the end, I am very pleased that I can magnify things that much, and I realized I should always keep my tripod with me if I go for macro shooting. I had my mono-pod, but it ain't helping at all. Yesterday I had a football shooting for a school, mono-pod worked very well there though. |

I should be doing ok with this one :-| |
So, if you are doing so good with this, does that mean you win the hat?? What happens if you do win?? |
I don't wear hats... so I donate it to someone else in other challenge :P
However, roz or IreneM will get the blue and it will be either a bug or a drop anyways... no one winning macro here but one of those two!! |
Jeez FocusPoint, why so negative dude? |
Umm... DrAchoo may have something to say about that :) |
Thanks for the vote of confidence. :) I've got my entry and I guess we can hope that it isn't robber fly season... |

Still debating about "Bug, no bug"... I am afraid people will kill bugs this time... unless if they are extremely well done (photography, not cooking)
So, I have about another hour to think about it |

I was in a couple days ago, but last night I decided my image was too grainy. I re-shot my subject this afternoon, skipping lunch, and got a new entry uploaded. I like it enough, that I suspect I might have a new personal-best coming... :) |
