Both sides have it wrong. Purist tend to not like expert editing because it's not in their skillset and modern day expert editors don't like a lack of editing because it would otherwise reveal how emotionally and intellectually dead their photos truly are. What the challenge really needs are some damn good photographs. It shouldn't matter how they were made. I say award the winners based on three things, score, comments and favorite received. The exact criteria and the weight given to each would be revealed after voting.

What we need is a morally superior persons challenge. It has to run like any other challenge, so anyone can enter, but everyone runs the risk of dq when identities are revealed and they are sent to the sort of place where people go when they have had the temerity to put themselves forward for something for which they are so patently unqualified.

This is one of the few things that would get me going. My last entry took me places in real life. Would like to see what would appear and it's always good to see some old names resurrected.

Agreed, although I certainly don't consider myself a purist, and I'm not certain that is what you were saying. I enjoy processing, but you are correct in that I can't process like the expert Blues, etc. Quoting k10dguy's suggestion was tongue in cheek. Many unprocessed pinhole images would be rather dull and dirty in my opinion. I process the sensor dust and snot out of my pinhole images. :)

More importantly, we definitely need good photographs.

I'm going to claim 'fate' and say our recent spamming was portentous!

Time for another Masters' Free Study?

I joined the week before the last one and set it as an aspiration to be able to partake in the next one.

Five years is long enough to wait!

Masters' Free Study III please!

(What harm can it do??)

+1!

I also started a new thread just so L will see two identical topics when he does his next check-in here.

I like the idea! Focuspoint made some suggestions in 2010. May I suggest the participants should have least 5 ribbons? Otherwise I have to enter something ;)

And they have to be in the top 100 of the Points and Ribbons race from the previous year. :-)

Oh my!!!

It would be wonderful if this challenge were to pull in some of those who haven't played much since the last one five years ago.

De Sousa, Lovethelight, Luvmyaussie, Halopes - who would you like to see participating??

As for us current folks - bring your best! I'm-gonna-be-trying for this one, how about you??!

Masters' Free Study II

The Blue on the last one sets a bit of a bar for dedication, impact and artistry!! Many will know the image, some will not have seen it before.

Pull-the-stops-out time!

The scary thing is that I'm eligible to enter...

Since its a blue shirt challenge only, I am not eligible. :(

Behold your shirts are blue.

2 thirds for me means I barely scrape in the eligibility criteria. I think they need to set the bar higher :)

It is unfortunate that only paying members can enter. If you really want to see people jump back in, it should be open regardless of membership status IMHO.
01/13/2014 09:42:25 AM · #191
Yes its only for the elite.
01/13/2014 09:52:30 AM · #192
I'm fine with having this challenge, and look forward to the entries. However, that leaves the rest of us without a challenge this week.

I agree with you here. I'd love to see some of the "old-timers" come back for this.

Sounds good to me as I have a brown ribbon, but better yet, have a challenge for people that have never ribbon-ed.... give one of us a thrill.....

Are there handicaps?

And I like the idea of follow-on Brown and No Ribbons (or rather fewer than two of either) challenges, too.

I'm thinking the same thing Tate :)

I see it as a reward for those who have stayed loyal! and really! you can fix the problem by putting your hand in your pocket and sign up again! :)

I'm amused, as I was last time, that I'm eligible.

I'm curious, though - what stops any paid member from entering? Do people not even get the entry form?
01/13/2014 02:32:03 PM · #199
When I click on Enter this Challenge, it says "Sorry, you will need to win 2 more ribbons to participate in this challenge."

Disqualification? Suspension? A barrage of (virtual) rotten tomatoes in the Forums?
