That's why I don't enter any photo contests if they want rights to the photo. People are stealing photos from us.. and the photographers are sometimes unaware that they are signing the dotted line saying they can, just so the photog can get a little fame if they win.

No, hes just doing what he is told and probably doesnt see it like that. Most government people think that anything the government does is good and if it seems inconvenient or bad then its just a small little sacrifice to make for the common good.

Look at the war going on, they have no problem killing people over there or getting our own people killed. Im sure they dont care about rights-grabbing.

I don't see what the big deal is. I've done some free stuff to get exposure which got me some paid business in the past. I have a image that is not really stock worthy, yet fits what there looking for. So I give up my image rights on a image I'll never get a dime off of any way for some exposure which might lead to some paid business down the road.....hmmmmm

It's not that hard, people. This IS NOT A CONTEST, nor is it a way to make money. It is FOR FREE. FOR FUN. For soccer moms and amateurs with no delusions of grandeur. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOSE A SALE (or loose a sale, as most of you are used to reading) THEN DON'T SUBMIT A PHOTO!!!

Personally, I have more of a puzzled reaction to this whole thing than a negative one. That has more to do with what I think the role of government should be and what they are using our resources for lately than it does my general mistrust of government. And none of this has anything personally to do with the OP or with Deb or her service (for which I am extremely grateful).

But ultimately, I just like to compulsively drop smart-ass one line comments in threads.

look... I'm not saying that this is the case for this contest. I'm just saying that this is sometimes done. And that's why I don't agree to enter a contest of this nature. Explain to me WHY they need all the rights to my photo?

Calm down. Skepticism and criticism seem fair and reasonable. If this were a private (not for profit) site that was asking for full rights, I would expect the same scrutiny, but not likely any defense. As I stated earlier, my (minor) beef has more to do with what my government is spending my time & money on - which I also believe is fair and reasonable criticism.
