My wife much prefers the town-less one. I kind of like the original. Which one do you like best?

I prefer the version with the town. The little patch of man-made stars mirror the vastness of the universe. The similarity between the two sets of lights miakes it easy to imagine that we're not alone. Very cool shot!

I'm with you, I like the one with the town, it conveys a sense of our smallness in the universe, at least that is what it conveys to me...

I like the one with the city lights better. Gives it more depth, and a more personal feel. |

I like the one without the city lights. It's something I don't get to see often and is pure pleasure to experience. I like the water in that one also. |

No. 2 - the fine line of lights anchor the space with all its gorgeous ambiguity and, as scalvert said, it balances the stars. The poetry is more complete in this version too.

Haha. When looking at the two thumbnails, it just looks like two black squares. I thought "what are these goofy people doing now?" |

I don't care for the town at all. The lights are far too linear and don't seem to fit in with the random ordering of the stars.
Since I don't care for the city lights, removing them make sthe bottom too dark for my tastes, so moving the frame up would be a good thing -- it would have allowed you to be able to place the 'little dipper' more prominently in the frame along with the 'big dipper'.

But not in photographic taste...
My wife and I have never, ever agreed on which shot I should enter. Of course, I'm always right. I've studied the photographic art. I've learnt PS. I've been in the field actually taking shots for much, much longer than she has.
Maybe that's why my average score is still very low. ;(
David, I actually prefer the one without the lights, which I find distracting. |
