What are the exact Photoshop Teniques/Menu Items, you can use without breaking the site rules - for the Open Challenges?

I'm very interested to know this too, for both Basic and Advanced editing. I used the Pattern Stamp tool in one of my challenge photos, and now I'm concerned that I shouldn't have. Can anyone offer some insight? I tried searching for other posts, but haven't really found anything.

Your forum tag line is keeping the forums from loading.. the server that is hosting your image is either very slow or not functioning...

Thanks for the help David. I swapped out the photo so that the pattern stamp tool was not used.

Not to nit-pick, but why is it ok to use the Cloning tool and not the Pattern Stamp tool?

It is never ok to use the cloning and pattern-stamp tools in a Basic Rules challenge. It is acceptable to use both in an Advanced Rules challenge as long as you are not adding, removing, moving or duplicating major photo elements, or otherwise violating the integrity of the photograph.

Thanks Terry. I guess I was ok from the beginning, as I'd used the pattern stamp tool on an Advanced editing challenge.

Getting back to saintnicholas_25's original question, are there plans to publish a complete list of acceptable/unacceptable PS functions one day, or has this been ruled out in the past?

I think a long time ago, it was said that no list would be posted because not everyone uses ps, so finding all the different things to include with all the different programs would be somewhat futile. So they came up with a list of what can be used that applies to most editing programs. That short list is in the rules for "basic" editing. Only those things can be used. If something other than those are used, you risk getting your picture dq'd.

I feel the editing guidelines are sufficient. Basically, what you do should:

(a) affect the entire image at once (so no dodging, burning, cloning, etc.)
(b) not use extra layers,
(c) should not use any filters except for cleaning (i.e. gaussian blur, smart blur, dust & scratches, median).

That's my basic paradigm, and it works for most images. Things like the Replace Color tool are a bit iffy, since you're choosing specific colors in the image. But I suppose it's okay, since we can selectively desaturate.

Hope that helps!
