A suggestion for another Masters Challenge if there should be one:

"Fine Art Photography"

Description:

Submit a photo that you believe is "Fine Art".

Why a masters challenge? Actually, I suggested a challenge very similar to this the other day, but not just for masters. I think this is the danger of the new "masters" thread. As a regular challenge, it's exclusionary. I realize it can be extra, but then, for example, here's a good challenge topic I've been waiting for, and it would get put out of reach of some who would like to participate (me) :-)

Yeah, didn't you recommend a "Gallery" challenge or something like that?

I agree, why not let me enter as well?

Jmsetzler: I am affraid that nshapiro is right. I think it should include all members or those that wish to enter.

Here's the other thread. I realized after I posted it that the title should have been "Fine Art" rather than Gallery, but that term eluded me when I was writing the suggestion:

How about a "John Setzler Challenge", and only he can vote on the images?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

But Terje: you have hit upon a great idea, let me extend it. Why not make a voting block exclusively of masters and they can vote on a chosen contest.

Ok, maybe only one voter is a bit harsh, but a panel then? Instead of 300 voters.

graphicfunk, that's a great idea.

I think 'fine art' would be much too controversial a genre... does that mean fine art as in 18th Century paintings? Or as in contemporary visual arts? I suspect most people would think of classical landscapes... or impressionist paintings at a push.
I say lets be more specific about our genres.
Here's my idea:
Postmodern.
Take a photo which conveys the idea of postmodernism to your viewer.

This would be superb!

Perhaps my definition in the suggestion a few days ago resolves this:

How about setting the voting block up so that only people with 100+ comments and say 50% useful comments could vote....this would defiantly weed out some of the undesirable voters

I agree with darkRider.

And then watch the flurry of comments like "Great photo!". The "this comment was helpful" checkbox is effectively a noop.

I'd like to see the Master's challenge once a year based on some criteria for entry that is based soley on the performances for that given year. No other special challenges that are exclusionary are necessary.

Absolutely not... the general public are in huge disagreement about what contemporary art should be in galleries as it is!

This was not a personal attack. If anybody offended, I apologize.

If you have less voters, then you will have a different result. Maybe people seem to be asking for that.

Hmmmm...FINE ART. A strange area. I guess I do not know what it is. I entered 3 to this one, the Center for Fine Art Photography, and none got in for the juried part. Look at the Best of Show there. What do you think? My opinion, not on my wall. Does not appeal to me. Same as the 1st place color. But, that is my opinion. I am not a FINE ART buyer, or obviously photographer. sniff, sniff. (C:
By the way, what I did enter
