OK, I'm brand new here, so I feel a little inept making suggestions already. I haven't even gained the courage to vote on any challenges yet because I feel my knowledge base isn't nearly good enough to venture an opinion on the excellent talent I've seen here so far. This aside, I'm completely addicted to this site and have spent hours gazing upon the works displayed here.

That was my disclaimer, now for my idea. Apologies if someone has already suggested this or if it has already been done....

Hands....I can think of a million ways to portray hands. I guess in my head I have a "Puppetry of the Peni*" image (can I use that word here?), only using hands instead of male genitalia. Just an idea...interested in what you think

In reading that back, I think it came across way wrong...I was in no way suggesting that anything inappropriate should be portrayed (genitalia, etc...). I was thinking more along the lines of different ways the hand could be photographed to suggest other objects. Sorry if I sounded like a sicko.

no no, I understood exactly what you meant, and I think its a great challenge suggestion. Maybe if the thought was that it wasn't broad enough, just "body art" or something like that would work? ;)

And don't be afraid to vote and comment! its the best way to get involved, learn a bunch and have a fun time here.

Welcome to dpc Stephane. I think a Hands challenge would be cool, even without the puppetry connection. Voting is a good way to get started here. You don't need any particular expertise, just call `em the way you see `em.

I'm glad you understood what I meant. I was afraid people might think I was some kind of pervert. :0)

My original idea was "shoulder"...I work for an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in shoulder surgery. We just built a beautiful new office and are trying to find some cool "shoulder" art to put in our exam rooms. This is easier said than done! I stumbled on this site purely by accident looking for "shoulder" art and I new spend hours perusing the archives.

After some thought, I decided that for the purpose of this site, the shoulder is just entirely too boring. The hand just has way more character and possibility as a subject. Hence, my suggestion of a "Hands" challenge. See, there WAS method to my madness! haha!

A Shoulder:

Since my most frequent model is so identifiable, I seem to use hands as a major compositional element pretty frequently already:

I agree, there are some great shoulder shots here. (Waiting for prints available on some!) :0) GeneralE...love the hands incorporated into your shots, too. I have a shot of my oldest son's hands when he was a baby. I'll have to search my archives and see if I can find it. I've always thought hands are so fascinating...no two alike and almost as distinguishable a feature as one's face.

Thanks! Do you want a print of that shoulder shot? I can put it up there pretty cheap ...
