Challenge: Surprise! (Classic Editing)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Olympus D-490Z
Location: Oakland, California, USA

Aperture: 5.6

Isaac asked me to move the light so he vould explore his navel. I said OK so long as I could have the camera ready to record any surprising discoveries.

Used incandescent light along with onboard flash; put my hand in front of the flash unit to diffuse the light a little, which gave it a reddish cast, so I converted to to a duotone instead.

And this is a surprise to you? :)

This isn't very surprising overall but the shot is well done. The colors work well for this shot and I like the set up, the upper right is a tad blown out, started at 6, moving to an 8

Really cute idea. I would love to see it cropped without the top of the pants showing.

Nice use of negative space, it works really well here. The color tones you have chosen look great. I don't like the light at the top right of the photo, I think I would have cropped it off.

Tickles? Pretty cute belly with that rim of pants showing. I like the sepia tone - warm and flesh-like. Wish the fingernail was clean, and the texture of the skin is a bit flat. Still nicely done, show thought.

A lovely minimalist photo with a superbly balanced composition. The simplicity is a very strong tool.

you found a perfect entry for the scents/aromas challenge? belly buttons if not kept up, realllly start to smell funny... go ahead.. rub your index finger around as deep as you can and take a whiff.. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.

*laugh* Like it. Sepia looks good here and an excellent crop.

Gotta love when kids find their belly button. This would have been a 9 from me, but the dirt under the kids fingernail is so genuine, it gets a 10. Great lighting and toning!
