I submitted these 3 pictures to the State Fair (based on feedback from some helpful DPC'ers):

- -

I got the blue for the panorama! Amazing since I considered the other panoramas as good or better. It must have been extremely hard to judge!

My other two photos didn't place. However, this was my first ever State Fair competition and I had no idea what I was getting into. The scenic group was by far the most crowded, both in terms of number of entries and the number of *outstanding* photographs. So I don't feel bad at all. There were some awesome photographs there.

Those are some fantastic shots David. I especially like "Sweet Water" The centered composition works very well, and the colors are just super. I like "Serenity" a lot too, however the clouds look a bit pink on my monitor. The panorama is beautiful, but I'm not a big fan of panoramas.

Great work. Congrats on the blue ribbon!

Congratulations. That shot really stands out.

The waterfall shot is also wonderful; one suggestion, some of the highlights seem a bit blown out. Perhaps that can be adjusted.

The first shot is stunning in its scene and colors. However, perhaps because of this, it leaves you longing for a wider view.

All in all, really beautiful work!

It's no surprise to me that the canoe shot won. Having the canoe in the shot takes it from 'just another panoramic landscape' to something unique and thought provoking. It's one of those photos you just want to stare at.

A print going to be available anytime soon?

These are terrific! The competition must have been very tough for your other two shots not to place. Congratulations.

For the fair competition I titled that one "A Different Point of View". Kind of a play on the fact that I did paddle to the other side of the lake to get the view, plus the inclusion of the "point" of the canoe in the view. Anyway, I liked the title. :-)

I tried to upload a print version before the fair. But the format used at the state fair was 5x18", which they don't offer here. So I'm going to have to take a look at what panoramic sizes are available and recrop the image.

First place was $40. That should about cover the cost of printing all three images. :-)

Really, even $0 would have been good ... I wanted the "bragging rights" that come with a ribbon more than anything. ;-)
