Well, I got paid for a class early and decided to treat myself to an early christmas present. The 10% off sale at Sears helped a lot too :).
Got my Rebel yesterday and then didn't even get to touch it until early this morning because I was helping someone move. I've shot a few snaps this morning, but haven't looked yet. I'm getting there LOL.
Any tips and suggestions for a newbie DSLR owner greatly appreciated.

My only suggestion is to use it loads, and you'll soon be really used to it :)
Congrats on the purchase

I was going to go to the zoo today and put it through its paces, but after packing and lugging yesterday, I can barely move. I'll probably head over to post and snap some shots there, and maybe press the local ducks into modelling :-D.

Well, the composition is a little lacking but I am extremely pleased with the quality of the colors and lighting. This was taken at the mall in Fayetteville under flourescent light. This camera ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can ya tell I like it? LOL

Congrats Shari, welcome to the club! I'm looking forward to taking mine to the zoo - but it might not be until after the holidays...
Can't wait to see more of your pictures! Nice shot of the carousel horse - did you take that in point and shoot mode or manaul? |

Welcome, welcome. :)
If you find the exposures are too dark, bump it up 2 f stops and life's good. :)

Count me in, got it for a week now and I just love it! Sony F828 is out of my mind now. 'Kinda new to SLR though, so lots of stuff to learn :). |

Now all you need is the $16,000 in basic lenses and filters to do the cool stuff. LOL No shortage of accessories. Just choose wisely. |

Use a tripod :)
It makes a huge, huge difference - even more so with an SLR than with a point and shoot.

I think I had it set on Aperature Priority...yep, changed it to shutter priority when the carousel started turning LOL.

When I went out to do night shots of xmas lights downtown, I immediately thought of the tripod and took it along. I'm going to go back again when ALL the lights are on so I can get all the sparkles in the trees too :).

Well, my fiance broke the bank, and it turns out I'm now also a member of Team-Rebel. I guess that means I should enter a challenge, eh? ;)
I guess part two of this post is that as of a ~month ago, I'm now engaged :) I asked my girlfriend of two years while we were on our yearly vacation in Ocracoke, NC. Here's a picture. Anyone interested in shooting the wedding? :) |
