I'm starting to just ignore the political threads. The first few posts and some longer ones are enlightening to a point, but after a while it just gets repetative. I've chosen to ignore threads instead of the whole forum because there are things posted there that I DO want to read.

I ignore political threads, but I like reading rants related to the challenges or photography in general.

Same as you Ami.......there's some very interesting and/or funny posts in there. I just ignore the politics.

I do. I wish i could ignore other forums as well... maybe one day :)

Not me, every now and then there is an interesting topic in there. For the rest I don't mind not clicking on the link so no reason to block it.

And these threads are always started by the same person!

Me, though I like to check it out once in a while.

But I like a good political discussion - all things are politics, really - it's just that that isn't what one gets in any forum I've ever frequented.

I do. I disabled rants several months ago and plan to leave them off at least until after the Nov election. I get enough exposure to politics in the course of my work and my regular not-online life. I come to dpc to concentrate on photography and to get away from the BS and all the hateful vitriolic rhetoric. Disabling rant threads really has increased the enjoyment I get from the time I spend here at dpc. Further, I haven't watched anything but sports on TV this week, lol.

I don't have them disabled I just bypass all political threads. Even if they are unmoderated, this isn't the site for them. No personal attack on you MadMordegon, but I automatically ignore rant threads started by you. Not because I agree or disagree with your points, but because I hate what they turn into.

Had it disabled but when the "Ignore" a thread feature showed up, I turned Rant back on. Mostly I ignore political threads. Lots of sound and fury ... too little thoughtful content.

Personally I find it extremely interesting to see peoples political views from around the world. It certainly opens you eyes!

I do agree though, that most of the time they all get to the same point. One that in my opinion will never be agreed upon.

I find i look in the Rant section after something newsworthy has happened. It always kicks off then.

I've never had it enabled. That's just not why I come to this site. :-)

Right now, I have it disabled. Every so often, I look at it (I consider it my "Moderator duty") but like has been stated, when there are 5 or 6 threads on politics, and everyone is just copying and pasting their replies into each one of them, what's the point? If there was one thread, "politics" (as i think there should be because they all end up with the same arguments anyway), I would probably keep it on.

Just my opinion.

...but for the love of Charlie Brown, think of the children man!! Poor little Linus, anxiously waiting in the pumpkin patch...everyone should hear the tale of the Great Pumpkin! ;o)

lol but then it will turn into another political debate. it isn't bad enough that americans control most of whats on tv with the political crap now they gotta take over the forums as well. I say stand up and raise your glass and say "NO MORE POLITICS, I'm voting for the great pumpkin"

I think the intent of the statement is to not argue about some things, just accept. Kids will still hear of the Great Pumpkin, great Popes, great Presidents, and a variety of other fairy tales, never fear ...
