Well, with this kind of score for NOT submitting a flower or an insect...maybe I should have stayed in the box! LOL ;o)

FWIW, my shot has both an insect AND a flower, and is currently at 6.63... it's not bad here in the box.

I actively searched for something with color that wasn't a flower or an insect, although I had seen quite a few of them before I located my subject.

So far, I am happy to say that I haven't come across another shot that looks similar to mine. I just wish that I had shot/cropped the image slightly different.

I believe that is hurting my score slightly. The last I checked, my score was around 4.7-something.

Perhaps I will get a few nice comments/suggestions at how to improve the shot. (Which would only give me reason to go and reshoot the subject.)

Being stuck in an office and motel in Denver, I would have probably done an insect or flower, but didn't. Funny thing I'm at 6.12. Gee, I'm out of the box again, but with a better score than usual.

Mine is neither flower nor insect and it's doing much better than anticipated. I may get out of my brown ribbon slump yet!

Coming from someone with 7 or so flower shots in their portfolio

If there are so many flowers and so many insects then why am I not doing better for orginality? I would actually like a comment or two to say whats the matter? Sure isn't out of focus or a glare on it...just two boring I guess.

Just to make you feel a bit better -- no bug, no flower, a bit oof and a bit of glare -- 4.68 ;)

Sure lots of bugs and flowers, but what about coins and eyeballs?

Perhaps people feel bad about giving out too high a score in album cover and are making up for it in macro.

you know, everybody has to start somewhere...just because you've already shot and mastered bugs and petals doesn't mean everybody else has.

maybe the challenges need to be segregated between 'rookies' and 'been-there-shot-thats' so that those who find other's attempts at what they've already mastered won't be subjected to reviewing the aggravating polinating bee pictures for the 2000th time...

Well said - they're amazing things.

I second this... I just finished voting on Macro, 10 of my top 15 are bug photos.
