Here's another neat little action I found on the web that's pretty useful on certain photos. It's called 'Velvia', and it's meant to mimic the rich hues achieved by using Velvia film. I didn't create it; the authors name appears in a little pop-up box whenever you use it - credit is all his. It's great on landscapes, not so good on people, FYI.
Here's the original
Then I ran the Velvia action, setting opacity at 45% (the action prompts you to set the opacity, and I think it defaults to 70% which is too high IMO).
This is what came out the other end:
I didn't think it was all that flat coming out of the cam, but clearly it was :)
Click on the link below, and when it prompts you to 'Save As', set the destination as the "Photoshop Actions" folder in your Photoshop directory (usually C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Presets\Photoshop Actions or somewhere similar depending on your install, and which version you use)
Velvia Action Download
If you try this action, maybe post the results in this thread for fun.
Have fun!

Is this something that would work in Photoshop Elements 2.0?
I could really use something like this with a few of my photos, but I can't yet justify the cost of Photoshop.

I use that action alot. I like it very much, but as Pedro says, use it in moderation. The default setting is WAY to high.
Pedro, you and I seem to like the same type of things. Have you ever tried the LOMO action? I've never used it on a DPC entry, but have fooled around with it a little. Pretty neat. I'll find a link and post it later.

thanks dg. I don't know anything about MACs
@Nelzie - it should work fine in elements. I don't use elements, but as far as i know all the commands in the action are available. Maybe someone with Elements knowledge will reply? |

Give them try, they're fun!

I hope you know that a LOMO action is completely void of anything that makes lomography what it is! Lomography is supposed to be about unpredictability, and randomness, not selecively converting photos.

You can save it where ever you like, I personally created an Action folder in the Photoshop directory. After you have saved the file, go into PS and from the Action pallette chooose "Load Actions..." then point it to the the Velvia action and hit ok. Once it is loaded select the action and hit Play. |

The success of my photos is usually pretty random and unpredictable, so these are perfect for me. ;) LOL!
I completely understand the IDEA behind lomography. These actions do not try to simulate the spontenaety (sp?) of lomography, but more the results of the LOMO camera in terms of colour and contrast.

You guys Rock!! Thanks P and Mariomel for those actions. I can't wait to start messing around with them.
@Pedro - I tried your muted action posted in your other thread and like the effect alot. I still need to work with it, as I think this may be a little heavy handed but here's one I came up with vs. the original...
Muted atn. Original
Muted color thread is where I originally saw it. Thanks again! :-)
I haven't got any good landscapes to try the velvia one yet, but that will be next on my list. |

That looks great Jennifer. If it feels a little harsh on his face (I'm not saying it does I'm saying if you think that) then use the eraser tool on the Channel mixer layer over the harsh parts. Set the opacity really low (like 5%) and it will fade the effect over those parts only. Personally i wouldn't change it - i like it as is.

which part of the action doesn't work? You can usually mod them if there's a filter or two that hadn't been invented yet. |

Ohhh, I see. That makes more sense!

P.S. I wouldn't say your images are random and unpredictable!

Pedro - have you tried using the velvia custom curve for the D70? If so, how does that compare? I have white wedding installed in mine now, but am thinking of changing it.
Thanks |

No part. When I try to load the action I get an alert saying the 'file isn't compatible with this version of Photoshop'.

Stupid question of the hour...I have PS 6... I downloaded the action...put it in the PS folder (made a new folder for actions and put it there, actually, in the PS program)...opened the actions pallette, and can't find any way to "load" actions...it just has several default ones. Can someone enlighten me??? Thanks! ;o)
