This is a 'sneak preview' from a shoot I did yesterday evening.

Gawwww dang that rocks. I really love the colors in that portrait. The composition is really great. Very nice. I look forward to seeing the series.

Beautiful ! But maybe the kind of earrings are "out of place" in this nice composition...

That is an amazing chunk o' artwork. I agree with the earring, and the skin tone leans toward "zombie," but still extremely cool.

Awesome composition and colors. The skin tone is a little pale. Other than that, it rocks.

hey thanks!

i definitely was trying to 'dehumanize' the skin tones; i made a white balance choice that would make things a bit 'colder' to try to emphasize the otherwordly 'non human' feel of it and hopefully make the fantasy art element of it very strong. I also had the friend that was doing the makeup really emphasize the greens.

Here are a couple more i worked up



Id be interested to know if these are as successful as the first one posted.

The first one in the set you just posted is amazing....they're all beautiful, but that one really has something special about it...wow. :o)

I like #02. A lot.

I think there's something intrinsically "wrong" with having a "portrait" pose here, with eye contact with the camera ... a faerie would normally be extremely shy of humans, and would likely only be candidly photographed when caught unawares. #02 looks just like that, while the other two just look like a model in costume.

They're all great. I also like the shot of the (looks like) the same model with the umbrella on the website.

Really excellent work, Kollin. I'm hopefully going to be working on a surreal model shoot myself shortly, so this is great inspiration. I like the brightness of the model's body in 02 and 03 shots, but it's quite different to the first shot. I like all three in their own right, but wondering if the difference was purposeful? Think I might choose the middle ground and lighten the 'Tale of' shot, but reduce the brightness a little from 02 and 03?

Is the luminescence of the skin on 02 and 03 due to exposure alone, or did you use an post-proc editing effect?

Yes, I used a post processing effect on those. Basically blurred layers in different blending modes.

I like 02 best - I agree with the General, the eyecontact is disconcertingly intense in the others. Just curious, which one does she like best?

I'm glad you posted these. They're great. I really like number 2. I've thinking about doing a folk/fairytale/mythology character series for a while and I'm just waiting till I have everything I need. I can't wait to do it since I predict it will be really fun. I collect childrens books and that kind of thing, so this is pretty exciting. I really like yours and can't wait to see the rest.

Wow Kollin, these are great images! I agree with GeneralE though, the lack of eye contact in 2nd one fits the subject better.

Can you tell us what the shoot is intended for? Just curious.

I can think of no better reason. :) Who needs a reason to take pictures of pretty girls? Keep up the good work, and show us more when you have them.

Good work Mag, I like them a lot... I like the first one the most because the darker atmosphere gives a kind of mystical feel to it, like a scene out of a Tolkien book. There's a fantasy world feeling there.
The brightness of the second two photos takes that away.

This is a great series.. does remind me of that hoax from england early in the 20th century, with photo's of fairy's in the woods.
