I mean like about 90% of the images in the freedom challenge have the word freedom in the title. Stupid me I thought we shouldexpress freedom within the image and not in the title.

Well if the image expresses freedom then who cares what the title is? I rarely even look at titles, unless I don't see how the photo meets the challenge then I will take into account the title to see if it might help me understand.

The problem is I'm only at half with voting but to be honest I have not seen one where I can say "Now this is really about freedom" all sorts of images about all orts of activities but without the title almost none of them really screams freedom.

Well...
Freedom is an abstract concept.
Photography deals with the concrete. It can elicit abstract thinking, if the viewer relates to the image and the subject in context. But that is the challenge, isn't it? To bring the abstract to the concrete?

That's why titles matter sometimes. They help point the viewer's attention to the photographer's intent.

(And, sometimes, titles just get in the way.)

I sure wish there was a "title writing" school out there. I seem to be especially lacking in that area.

After a few more votes I really found a few where I could really feel the freedom in the image, and SURPRISE!! none of those have the world freedom in the title :))

I just hope, too, that with all we have to wonder about how fellow DPC'ers will acccept our basic interpretation and image, that you will be tolerent of our attention (or lack of) paid to titles. I don't think about them much, and just try to keep them simple usually. Thanks!!

What kind of help do you want? ... it's certainly more my specialty than photography seems to be!

Mine does not have freedom in the name ,maybe would do better if I called "This is photo of Freedom, you know !? "

LOL or, "even if it's not visible in the image, please belive me this is 100% pure freedom" :))

I admit my title sucks. It doesn't have the word freedom in it, btw. I had a perfect title for the picture but for undisclosed reasons I felt I had to change it. Unfortunate, because the title was the only one that could define the picture. And I couldn't think of another one at the time, but, as sure as sh**, I thought of one today that would have been just as good or even better than the first one.

Are there rules against collaboration? I seem to be very literal with my titles. (And when I'm not, I get hammered... ((no, that did not come out right - maybe I SHOULD get hammered so I would think of more creative titles)) ARGHHHHHHH!!!!)

Actually, any kind of help would be appreciated. What kind of titles do people like??

During voting -- none.

After voting, a title that compliments the concept, without stealing attention is best.

David
Just my way of thinking I guess.

No, there's no real rules against collaboration of that type. If you want, send me a link to some untitled photos and I'll tell you what I'd name them and why.

People here mostly seem to like short, direct titles (without a description of the editing steps!); only rarely do they seem to like funny titles.

You might try a forum search (many threads on titles, including one current one), and looking at the top few pictures in some past challenges to see if there's any pattern to what people did.

I agree with you frumoaznicul, mine has nothing to do with freedom without my title...and there are alot of us, but I think our scores show that too, I just wish I was doing alittle better in the words challenge, thought I had a pretty good one for that.
