Some great poetry posted. Mind if I add mine?
With bitter words and spitted words
with words that are quite curt,
with spiny words, not kindly words,
we speak to cause one hurt.
With pretty words and witty words,
with words to make one smile,
with happy words, not snappy words,
we make to reconcile.
Some words are lies and some are truths
depending what we say,
some words we keep and some we don't
to promise or dismay.
From out our mouths spring many words,
each with special power
to cut one down, or lift one up,
underneath their shower.
Sometimes we need to hold our tongue,
and listen with our ear,
sit wisely silent, keep the peace,
try not to interfere.
But caution here! for silence too
can have the same effect,
conveying either peacefulness
or sign of cold neglect.
So, fewer words said thoughtfully
and when the time is right,
shine forth with true sincerity
and hold a clearer light.

Mine is one word.. but I see your point. It's not perfectly clear ("Take a photograph where complete words -- not just individual letters -- play a creative role in your composition.")
I know there will be entries with one word (at least I hope I'm not alone!) that should be equally effective!
Hope that helps a little ;) |

What about the same repeated? Its actually one word, but also many words? This can get confusing - just enter a good photo that has some letters that make sense to some people! Do the words need to be in English?

Possibly the one word dilemma might be over come if one word is in the submission another is used in the title.... that would be at least two words... |

Didn't think of that --- might be confusing. Is that better or worse than not meeting the challenge? Currently the word and title are the same (fairly obvious) so I'll think about changing it!
And Kolya - no way would I expect it to be in English only. :)

I hope no one deducts points for poor spelling! |

I wanted to do this photo for words, unfortunately it was taken a couple months ago and I don't have the time to recreate it.

i am really very content with my photo. But i've been scoring so low lately, i'll probably be dissapointed again. Anyway, I like it, although i'm not too sure about the spelling. |

One word or two - Title and Picture? I think the title is considered a part of the submission and this example and my view of the word challenge to me illustrates that point. This is a mundane idea and poor pic but the one word depicted with a title I would think qualifies as "words" |

I got one good idea, but I realy need more than basic editing to make it work. I posted the best I could do using basic editing. |

Of the 5 challenges I've entered, I expect this to be my best scoring. It's very... "audience friendly".
Ahem. Purple. Ahem.

This morning I had the notion of photographing H.P. Lovecraft's grave because it has an interesting inscription, "I AM PROVIDENCE" (the local joke is One A.M. Providence). I got to Swan Point cemetary and wound up having to follow the security guard in his car. He had to turn around and drive back our way and when he saw me taking pictures, he very nicely told my husband it wasn't allowed without prior permission.
The headstone wasn't as interesting as I remembered from visiting it several years ago. Frequently, fans leave offerings on the headstone and around the grave but there were none there this morning. I'm not a fan. I've read some of his work but found it a touch quaint for my taste. However, he is an important literary figure in Rhode Island. The headstone is quite small and plain. I got one shot before the guard asked me to stop. He didn't ask me to delete my images or anything but it wasn't any good. Being there did inspire me to go back and ask permission to shoot there. It is a beautiful, historic cemetary. My husband's family is an old one in Rhode Island and they have a mausoleum there which might be interesting to photograph.
Anyway, the photo I submitted is completely different but I like it quite a bit. It will probably do poorly as usual.

I am happy with the picture I submitted for words. But saw this tonight in the Barracks on post while husband was visiting a friend. I found it kind of humorous. But don't think it would have made a good entry. I wish I could have gotten this sign and somebody smoking in bed at the same time. Anyway..here is some WORDS!
