Since this is a DPL challenge, I have to question the fairness of DQing entries that are not 1/10 of a second. Many of us are using phones which don't give shutter speed control. |

Apple's default Camera app doesn't allow you to manually set a specific shutter speed (like 1/1000s or 2 seconds). The stock app handles exposure automatically, though you can subtly influence it using built-in controls.
To get true, DSLR-style shutter speed control on an iPhone 14 Pro, you'll want to use a manual camera app.
1. What You Can Do in the Native Camera App
While you can't lock in an exact shutter fraction in Apple's app, you can steer the exposure:
Exposure Compensation (±): Tap the small arrow (∧) at the top of the screen (or swipe up on the viewfinder) and select the ± icon. Lowering exposure forces the camera to favor a faster shutter speed; raising it slows the shutter down.
Night Mode Exposure: In low-light situations, the yellow Night Mode moon icon will appear. Tapping it lets you adjust the exposure time slider (typically up to 10 seconds handheld, or 30 seconds if the phone detects it's mounted on a tripod).
Live Photos (Long Exposure Effect): Take a Live Photo of moving water or light. Open the photo in the Photos app, tap the Live drop-down menu in the top-left corner, and select Long Exposure. The phone will blend the frames to simulate a slow shutter speed.
2. Full Manual Control via Third-Party Apps
If you need to freeze high-speed action or deliberately capture motion blur, third-party apps unlock direct access to the iPhone 14 Pro's shutter speed and ISO settings:
Adobe Lightroom Mobile (Free Camera Mode): Open Lightroom, tap the camera icon, and switch the capture mode from Auto to Professional. This unlocks individual sliders for Sec (shutter speed) and ISO.
Halide Mark II: A photography-focused app with tactile manual dials for shutter speed, ISO, and manual focus with focus peaking.
ProCam 8: Offers dedicated manual shutter speed controls, shutter-priority mode, and specialized long-exposure modes (like Motion Blur and Light Trails).
A Quick Tip on Aperture: The iPhone 14 Pro main lens has a fixed physical aperture (f/1.78). Because you cannot change the physical aperture to let in less light on bright days, shooting long exposures in daylight requires either a simulated slow-shutter mode in an app or a physical clip-on Neutral Density (ND) filter. |

I recommend ProCam. Halide Mark II is not free and Adobe Lightroom is an AI editor that makes navigating to the camera very difficult. Hopefully the HEIC that ProCam created will have valid EXIF.
Please keep this thread open for other phone users who might have difficulty with this. |

The specific, cell phone picture problem Don mentioned has been addressed, but the other issue, the appropriateness of challenges like this (or, IMO, Composite which requires either certain cameras or certain software) for League play remains. No point in worrying about either just now, but hopefully there will be a thread after the league has wound up in which things like this can be discussed. |

There are two challenges per round , it is not essential to enter both. Myself I was very pleasantly surprised that Extended has finally made to DPL which should be about challenging participants to do something new, get out of their comfort zone. Being in a team means that help is around, just ask other team members. |

And on the other end of the spectrum...
New phone takes up to 10 frames to create one picture, which is then auto edited by AI to create your final result, are we going to claim that is unfair or cheating? |

I was curious about equipment numbers for current DPC users and took a look at those that have logged in the past two days.
Here's the primary equipment numbers:
90 of 97 users have listed a camera as their primary "camera".
96 of 97 users have an actual camera at hand to use - based on equipment listed in profiles of those having a drone or phone as their primary "camera".
