I've been spending more time back on Cape Cod recently, sadly because my ex-partner is very sick. I did, and still do, love the salt marshes on "the Cape" and Robert bear_music and I made a detour on a recent trip to check out the ones in Sandwich, seen here.



A bit of history: The town of Sandwich was founded in 1637 and was the first town on Cape Cod. A key reason for its appealing location was the presence of broad salt marshes, which were immensely valuable to the early European settlers.

Salt Hay Harvest: Unlike upland hay which required extensive cultivation, salt marsh hay (marsh grass) was abundant and could be harvested with little effort for livestock feed and bedding. The harvesting was often done with work horses wearing "bog shoes" to prevent them from sinking into the mud.

This is very interesting. I imagine the meat from livestock fed with this hay had a distinctive, saltier taste? In France, in Normandy, I remember there were what they called mouton pre-sale (accents on both e's in "pre-sale" which means meadow salted). agneau de pre-sale

You're correct. It's still an artisan industry on Martha's Vineyard, specifically with Spring Lamb. I'm no aware of anyone that does pre-sale meats on the Cape proper...

I took a bunch of photos this morning, that I am calling "Kitchen Series". I'm not spending a lot of time on editing them right now. This is the first.

I haven't been out taking photos for the last few days. I fell down the stairs and although I'm okay - no broken bones or head injuries- I am covered in bruises and pretty sore so I'll just make use of some comparatively recent shots I already have.

Walk around a lake recently - warmed up for a few days after a spell of very cold weather. The ice that had formed on the lake was melting, but the shoreline was fascinating.





Holy Toledo! I hope no one was watching me get these up! Five edits - maybe six - to get these lined up as I wanted!!

I use a combination of "Canvas Size" and "Paste Into" for this kind of arrangement; add borders to the individual images first if you want gutters in the final.

Thanks. Actually, I was just talking about getting the 5 images from my workshop to this discussion thread :)

And here's the composite with white dividing the quadrants, narrower, with original wider black for ease in comparison.

I prefer the black gutters -- sets off the ice better for me, and I would add a similar-weight black border around the composite image. I like the detail and random shapes ... :-)
