I would really appreciate some input on my images. I am considering pursuing a career in photography and have been trying to create a portfolio. I think my stuff is crap, but I figured that I am my own worst critic so if some of you could give me a hand I would appreciate it. There are a few images. I have finished two of them with borders and taglines, if you think they work I would love to hear it. Please be as critical as possible. I really want to change careers from IT to photography and any help is greatly appreciated!! Stories from others would be helpful too. I know I asked for alot, but I really would appreciate any help!
Thanks!!

Very nice; I like the boys and the stallion best. On the stallion, it would be even better if you could clone out those power lines. ;o)
The road ahead is nice but seems to have a tad of a greenish cast on my monitor (it could be my eyes as well). I recently calibrated it but that doesn't mean much sometimes! The pay your fare shot has a distracting reflection on the bottom right side.
Other than those nit picks, very good. :o)

Stallion is excellent - but can you clone out the telephone wires.

I think in another post you mentioned 'photo journalism' if you planned on using your portfolio in that arena, cloning out elements is something you shouldn't do and certainly you don't want to do in portfolio shots. For other avenues it is less of an issue, but you should be aware of your target audience when putting this together.

Photo Portfolio Success ($ 22.39 USD @ B&N) might be a good book for you to look into regarding how to select the photos that comprise your portfolio. Someone else originally posted this and I've found it valuable. I think the first section regarding how to select the photos you use for your portfolio might be applicable for you. John Kaplan is a Pulitzer Prize winner and he includes not only his own work but works from many other photographers. He also provides tests wherein you select one photo from a group of photos to excise from the group based on the intended audience of the portfolio. While this is a subjective choice it can be good to see the decisions made by and read the background reasons given by a successful, seasoned pro photog.

Anyone else gone through this exercise lately and have their hard copy portfolio on-line? I would love to look!
