I'm partial to unfiltered wheat beers. Widmer Brother's Hefeweizen is my usual beer of choice. Back in Colorado (grew up and attended college in Ft Collins) I loved Easy Street and 90 Schilling (both O'Dells I think?) Never did get into Fat Tire though -- too hoppy for my taste or something. :)

In my (considerable ) experience the best beers are the freshest. Once you taste Guiness in Dublin, it just dosen't taste right in Cork (there you drink Murphy's).

Given that If you are going to visit the San Francisco area make sure to try (in no particular order) 1.Liberty Ale - a sister beer to Anchor Steam 2.Seirra Nevada Pale Ale 3.Lindt's IPA 4. Racer Five IPA

(With the exception of Russian beer) I have alwys held with the theory that while some beer is better than others, there is no such thing as bad beer.

What's your favourite beer, and where's it from?

1. The last batch I bottled. (usually found in my basement)

2. Free beer (available nationwide on a sporadic basis)

3. Definitely not very high on the quality scale, but Lucky Lager is probably the most fun with the little rebus puzzles on the underside of the cap. Figure it out in 30sec or CHUG it! (never seen it outside of So Cal)

Lucky Lager used to be brewed up here in San Francisco. However, I've never seen it here. We used to drink it when I was in high school in southern California. At ~$4 a case who could resist. It was strange though, you could drink all night and not really get drunk. We always joked that it was the missing ounce (they're in 11oz. bottles) that had all the alcohol. lol

I actually ran into the widow of the man who was head brewer of Lucky during/after WWII at the main San Francisco brewery while at a part time job down there. She was a grand lady, graceful, poised, and full of stories about Lucky Lager's heyday.

Does Jack Daniels count if you drink it by the pint?

I always considered Fat Tire to be training beer. Give it to people to ease the transition from watery mass market stuff into microbrews without shocking their taste buds too badly.

All those people that like Corona:

Try Santa Clara. Not as piss-weak and watered down as Corona. In AUS it has a yellow bottle label.

EDIT: NO!!!! YOU DO NOT PUT A WEDGE OF CITRUS IN IT!!!!

bah. Try corona without the lime. then try santa clara (definitely without).

Any "beer" that needs a slice of lime to make it taste good......

Guinness in Dublin
Murphys in Cobh
Harp in Belfast

In the states I like a mix of Harp and Guinness or whatever is local. Micro Breweries deserve a sound sampling of their product....for the sake of "research".

Palm! (Belgian beer)
and that's about it, yeah (*turns around to grab a glass, but unfortunately doesn't have her own bartender with beer tap around... :( *)

Usually half and half.....but I'm typically happy as long as there is clear separation between Church and State. Afterall, Guinness is a religion.....isn't it?

I thought it was a food group. Least the proper stuff is thick enough to slice.

The citrus is just used to keep the flies out. Do people actually think otherwise?

After reading that "desat failure" thread...I sure could use one. And I don't even like beer! ;o)

The only thing that comes to mind now is the VB (Victoria Bitter) ad campaign:

You should try Coopers (AUS) it has chunks. I'd imagine they're the only brewers in the world that make a crunchy stout. (and I'm sure people could contest that).

mmmmm..... dark and nutty.....

Aaaaaaaaaahhh! That took the edge off.
Fancy meeting you here, Lauriel...This Bud's for you ;)

Why thank you...although I think I might have to try one of those fancy ones they've all been raving about. Down here in Texas, I think all the beers you ever hear about are the same old same old...maybe that's why they all taste so bad!! ;o)
