I would like to do some one-on-one interviews with photographers on this site. The interviews would be on MSN/ICQ or even DPC fanatics, and then posted on the forums for discussion. I will have a list of base questions that will be photographer specific, and I'll include some improvisation as well.
Hopefully this will provide some of the answers to questions that people like to ask, and also give a bit of background and personal info for the photographer. It will also really help people who are learning, including myself, and should provide an entertaining read.
What does everyone think of the idea?

Sounds like a great idea, it would be helpful too. Maybe every week? |

Sounds good... how are you going to go about selecting photographers to interview?

Yes I was thinking it would be a weekly thing...
I don't want just the people who ribbon.. but a people who I think would give some good insight. I'll be checking portfolio's carefully before I select a subject (* and questions for that matter)

I like the idea very much, but what do you think about posting who you are going to interview a week in advance so that people could write you questions they would like you to ask? That would help take some of the pressure off of yourself to come up with questions. |

Good idea, go for it, at the rate of 1 photog a week, you'll be busy for quite a few decades.. ;-)

I think you'll have access to a greater range of people if you do it by email, as limiting it to any version of on-line chat is going to leave out quite a few folks due to either technologic or time limitations ... I also think you'll get more thoughtful (if less spontaneous) answers -- kind of depends on what kind of questions you have .... |

Well there you go - a photographer with an aversion to stationary objects. Sounds like a good first interview! |

I'll be a giving a choice of MSN Messenger/ICQ/DPC Fanatics/Email, whatever the subject feels comfortable with.
I've selected the first guineapig, and I'll post the interview as soon as it comes to hand.
After the first interview, I'll let people know a few days in advance of who the next subject is, so you can email me possible Q's that you would like to see asked.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm looking forward to it ... should be fun :-)
Cheers,
Dan

Interviews with photographers are great learning tools. I have been purchasing some of the DVD interviews from various photographers who appear in LensWork.
Listening to these interviews gives me insight into what photographers are thinking. You can only rarely get that from viewing images. Some of my favorite questions that get asked are ones about specific images in a portfolio. Listening to a photographer talk about 'why' an image was made is much more valuable, in some cases, than the simplicity of the image itself. It's quite inspiring. This is an aspect u rarely get to see/hear/read on DPChallenge. I often go back to images that inspire me here to read what the photographer had to say about it and find the all too common 'n/a' in the photographer comments box :(
